Bernie Sanders And Big Business Find Something They Can Actually Agree On

Neither thinks Hillary Clinton is really opposed to the TPP trade deal.
Hillary Clinton has tried to convince Democratic primary voters that she is firmly opposed to the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.
But the president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the country's leading business trade group and a proponent of the accord, told Bloomberg News earlier this month that he isn't buying Clinton's public stance. Now Sen. Bernie Sanders is seizing on those comments as a sign that his presidential primary rival can't be counted on to oppose TPP.

(23,156 posts)Obama has totally gone all out, sold out, to make this one of his top priorities. He's the one that appointed all corporate negotiators and didn't give a seat at the table to labor or environmentalists. Clinton and he are virtually identical politically and she was in at the start of this travesty. Yes, I certainly hope she'd improve this, but I don't trust her by the exact same degree I don't trust Obama in this. People that support Obama and try to pretend that Clinton is different politically are either hypocrites. aren't paying attention or are just wrapped up in a cult of personality. The things that Obama has done that have pissed me off are almost always things I could see Clinton doing as well.

(14,176 posts)Trade agreements in and of themself are not a bad thing. We need trade. Trade brings communities and the world together for peaceful reasons.
And the potential for both the previous Free Trade agreements, and this new TTP, are/were there. But they are nothing but shite if they are all lopsided to the benifit of private profit over social good. If they included fair labor and environmental standards, including getting rid to the clause where corporations can sue future governments for "loss of profits" if they dare enact better labor, environmental, healthcare, or educational benefits that would effect costs of business for them. That is downright evil. Because it will hand-tie and stop in its tracks any and all progressive legislation from now on. Frightening.
