FORKS TOWNSHIP Union workers at the Victaulic Co. plant on Kesslersville Road have approved a five-year labor contract that includes increases in pay, pension and severance benefits, with workers paying more for health care.
Steelworkers Local 2599 President Jerry Green said Monday the contract passed 111-24. About 215 workers belong to the union, he said. The vote occurred Sunday at the Steelworkers hall in Bethlehem. The last contract expired at midnight Sunday, but Green said a strike was not imminent.
The union and company reached a three-year deal in 2013, but Green said the union sought to stretch the deal to ensure the company would continue to reinvest in its Forks plant.
"We were looking for long-term viability," Green said. "We thought it was important."
