Ammon Bundy lawyers challenge decision to keep him jailed

Source: AP

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Lawyers for the leader of the armed standoff at an Oregon wildlife refuge have appealed a judge's decision to keep him in jail pending trial.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Stacie Beckerman said Ammon Bundy presents a danger to the community and the Idaho resident might fail to return for future court proceedings.

Bundy's lawyers said in documents filed Sunday that their client should be released with a GPS monitoring device and orders he not leave Idaho except for court appearances.

U.S. District Court Judge Michael W. Mosman is expected to hear the matter Tuesday, when he also considers the government's challenge of the release of another member of the armed group, Joseph O'Shaughnessy.

This photo provided by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, shows Ammon Bundy, one of the members of an armed group occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge as part of a dispute over public lands in the Western U.S. Bundy and several others were arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 26, prompting gunfire and leaving one man dead during a traffic stop along a highway in Oregon's frozen high country. All of them need to be held without bond because they are a danger to the community AND to themselves.

That in and of itself shows that he's a flight risk, and let's not forget his constant calls for armed conflict if necessary!

Let him out and he'll run to his father's ranch in Nevada, and will refuse to appear in court!!! Then what?

Leave his ass in jail, where his actions can be monitored!

I wonder how he's paying his lawyers...maybe daddy is using that $2 million he owes the US taxpayers?

Nothing like being defended in court by overworked public defenders....

I saw 30 seconds of the GOP debate and I heard Rubio talking about Obama's unconstitutional
actions and i wanted to scream that he taught Constitutional Law @ the University of Chicago
and after checking with some smart people here at DU article 2 section 1 of the US Constitution
grants the President the power to issue executive orders.

37. What is sad about these people to me is
Mon Feb 1, 2016, 05:00 PM
Feb 2016

that they were probably "home-schooled" poorly, or otherwise educationally abused from before they could understand what was happening. It seems like a cult situation. This world is confusing enough for those of us lucky enough to get a decent education (thanks Mom and Dad). I can't imagine what it must seem like for people confined to this narrow ideology all their lives, to try to come to grips with the real world. Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not condoning or excusing or defending what they did. Not at all. But watching these people make fools of themselves day after day, their frustration and confusion and childish pronouncements made me realize what a perilous state our education system is in. That is, in addition to the daily display of campaign stupidity accepted by a scary percentage of the population. (Hello, Trumpees). The problem is a lot bigger than these guys.
I stopped laughing at these poor bastards a couple weeks ago. They are going to be intimately involved with the government they hate for a long, long time, one way or another.
But the rest of are going to have to deal with the increasing numbers of poorly-educated and even uneducated people in the country. They cost society a lot. They hold our whole society back. Schools Not Prisons! Go Bernie!
