PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) The Latest on an armed group that took over buildings at a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon (all times local):

The four occupiers of a wildlife refuge in eastern Oregon aren't showing any sign that they are ready to leave in the latest interview with them.

One of them, David Fry, said they were waiting for people to come and support them.

(592 posts)Most Americans believe that the Posse Comitatus Act prohibits the use of federal troops to
enforce the law in the United States. They also believe that the President has to wait until a governor
asks for help before he can send federal troops to help and even only to quell an insurrection. These
beliefs are erroneous. They are based on complete misunderstanding of the two major laws that pertain
to this issue. This is important, for understanding the true status of the laws and authorities is essential
if we are to provide for the security of the homeland in an age of terrorism and catastrophic natural
disasters.
In this article, I will address both the Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act, using
different approaches to help you understand what each really means. I will parse the Posse Comitatus
Act to allow you to understand what it really means. I will tell the story of the Insurrection Act to allow
you to understand how it came to be enacted.

I dunno what they thought the outcome of this was going to be. civil disobedience comes with the possibility of jail time.

(33,400 posts)I don't know how they heat the building, but without power, the plumbing pipes could freeze and burst. there are artifacts in there that might need climate control as well. the power keeps the building maintained.
starving them out is a rational compromise, but it takes time.

They're all too emotionally high strung, and are a danger to themselves and others as there doesn't seem to be a lot of thinking (no matter how whack, as the kids say) going on any more, just reacting.

(2,344 posts)I remember reading about the necessary work the staff at the park would normally be doing to help the bird migration process as well as other maintenance and ecological work that's not getting done because of this unlawful armed takeover. And we're still paying the park staff even though they are prohibited from working. Ridiculous really and a complete waste of tax dollars.
