Oregon standoff: LaVoy Finicum memorial torn down and rebuilt
Source: Oregon Live
Soon after somebody tore down a cross erected in honor of a dead protester, somebody used its remnants to put a smaller version of the cross back together.
A memorial held Saturday was a spectacle of patriotism and of admiration for Robert "LaVoy" Finicum, who was killed Jan. 26 during a confrontation with Oregon State Police.
At least a dozen cars pulled up to the spot where Finicum died, following BJ Soper, a leader of the Pacific Patriots Network who had organized the memorial. About 50 men, women and children milled around on the road and the snow, watching the show.
A man climbed up a tree to nail another makeshift cross.

(2,657 posts)(thankfully), I do agree that to call it patriotism is a full 180 degrees off. A gathering of traitorous, clueless malcontents is more accurate.

(22,651 posts)The first day the group broke-in and entered buildings & trespassed on park property they should have been charged with those crimes.
To me its like the Feds waited to charge people with any crime and let the squatters have all-access to come & go from the location.
Feds seemed to want much more then just several simple crimes with a misdemeanor charge/fines. With waiting Feds got 16 for a Felony charge each and managed to kill one of them too. Probably cost Americans millions in our Federal money for those two weeks. Millions more in future for their 16 Federal court trials.

(49,005 posts)Finicum would never have surrendered or left, since We the People were not going to rob We the People to give the Bundy gang our land to sell for mineral rights and trample to death. That's what they were insisting on bottom line. Finicum said he was going to die instead of accepting arrest, so he gave himself only one option: suicide by cop. He accomplished it by evading a lawful highway stop, attempting to go around a barricade, not staying in the vehicle until commanded, not staying still after exiting, and reaching where a gun would be kept. The last point is the most obvious part of his suicide by cop. Finicum did everything to force the issue.
The Feds bided their time, avoided a shootout, and have only four dolts left to deal with.
Almost always, patience is the best strategy, especially when you do not want to let the other side martyrize several of themselves as a way to radicalize and increase terroristic mindset.
You have the gang leaders in jail and a tiny pocket of leaderless loonies who will be worn down by time.

(204 posts)These people are NOT patriots. Either you believe in the Constitution or you take part in an armed rebellion against the rest of us. The false meme that people agree with this outlaws about the use and fate of the lands in the is wrong. Polls show that the majority of Americans don't agree with their aims, and not even the people of the west agree with them. They want to turn the lands over to the cattlemen and lumber companies and the hell with the rest of us. Do yourselves a favor and quit calling them "patriots."

(22,670 posts)Not a patriot. Not a protester. A domestic enemy, terrorist, one who imposes his will on others at gunpoint and threatens to harm others with deadly force.
Straight out of an ISIS/ISIL playbook.
LaVoy Finicum, armed, posting guard outside a national wildlife refuge. Domestic... patriot or domestic terrorist?

(22,670 posts)"This is the kind of the people we're dealing with nowadays, absolute trash, lowlife scumbags. No morals, no remorse for the dead. These are the scum lowlifes who kill babies for crying out loud!...That's the people we're fighting against. So all the good people in America... need to realize...these are the people we need to get rid of...siding with the government and taking our guns..." David Fry 02/07/16*
Dehumanizing people you don't agree with and calling for them to be taken out. I wonder who else did that in world history? Need I go there?
Didn't realize that I needed to be taken out because I support the laws of the United States and don't want my constitutional rights to be trampled on by domestic terrorists executing a land grab. I suppose once his freedom fighters declare martial law and are done cleansing America of 90 - 95% of all those who disagree with him and his cause, he'll make a new constitution and begin again.
* I won't do him the service of posting his YouTube link.
