Sheriff: Texas teen kills mom, 2 neighbors, then himself

Seth Robbins, Associated Press

McALLEN, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a Texas teenager killed his mother and two neighbors before killing himself.

Uvalde County Sheriff Charlie Mendeke said Sunday that 19-year-old Dylan Westerburg gunned down his mother Friday in their home near Uvalde, about 85 miles west of San Antonio. He then went and killed two brothers who lived next door.

Mendeke says a witness saw Westerburg kill one of the brothers and called for help. When officers arrived they heard a final gunshot that investigators believe was Westerburg shooting himself inside the neighbors' home.

Authorities surrounded the homes and began evacuating those nearby. Not knowing the gunman was already dead, they weren't able to enter the neighbors' home until Saturday, when they found the three men dead inside.

If it's illegal to walk around with one's genitals hanging out, it should be at least as illegal to strut around with one's gun hanging out.

it has nothing to do with public safety but there is no reason to upset so many people. Concealed carry is more appropriate.

One suspects the body count would have been lower if he was trying to garrotte them with piano wire.

Is only as effective as the tools they have access to, but make no mistake, the tool is part of the equation and always will be!!!

I have never heard anyone blame the gun but the people who have them.

I'm for well regulating the people who have them and the kinds of guns they are allowed to have.

I don't trust them with a whole lot of firepower because gun owners have proved to me that many of them want to over throw the government, and many of them simply can't control their temper.

there wasn't a good dog with a gun to stop it.

Too bad. But hey, keep guns around the house, mix in a little crazy, and expect tragedy.
