If this Iraqi dam collapses, half a million people could die

Source: Washington Post

BAGHDAD - If breached, it could unleash a 180-foot-high wave down the Tigris River basin and drown more than half a million people, with floodwaters reaching as far as the Iraqi capital, about 280 miles to the south.

The collapse of Mosul Dam would be catastrophic for Iraq.

The dam has been called the most dangerous in the world for the past decade. But recent assessments by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers say it is at “significantly higher risk” of failing than previously thought. . .

Not letting ISIS off the hook here, but thanks a LOT, W., for that wonderful war that opened up a Pandora's Box of disasters. Enjoy your campaigning for your brother in South Carolina. And I'm not a religious person, but I pray to God that no member of the Bush family EVER gets within sniffing distance of political power again.

Daesh will probably breach the dam to try to impede their progress. I hate to say it, but it would not surprise me in the least.

It's about fully recognizing the utter depravity of the human "species". Look back through our speckled history. We are capable of very awful things and that behavior has not relented over time. It has gotten worse.

+1000

w and Cheney just had to go in there and fuck things up and unleash a hell storm
of after effects. No war in Iraq = no ISIS and with no ISIS then maybe the Iraqi
people could have been working on their dam. w, Cheney, Rummy, Condi, Kristol,
Wolfowitz and so on should be all made to live right below that dam.

But still what about Hillary's emails?

Don't forget Bremmer's dissolving the governmental apparatus to boot. Invade a country, tear apart its bureaucracy, arm the young men and tell the existing army to fuck themselves. What could go wrong? The sheer incompetence and hubris displayed by the Bush administration and the butt-kissing generals who went along for the ride is remarkable. Don't forget, not only was ISIS or al qaeda 3.0 forged in our detention facilities, but the great surge that paid the Sunni's to stop fighting and buy more arms paved the way for these same Sunni's to morph into ISIS by design or lack of any other alternatives. So many terrible consequences related to our invasion of Iraq.

What did the people of Iraq ever do to us? We've been bombing and burning and maiming and hurting and destroying the country of Iraq and its people for 25 years now.

would disintegrate Sykes-Picot and unleash the dogs of war in the ME. That is why we utterly screamed against the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Looks like we were right, sadly.

Bu$h and Cheney should be tried for war crimes in The Hague.

a refugee crisis that is unprecedented in its size and scale of human suffering

Bush, Cheney, Powell, Rice, Rumsfeld, Bremer

in a more just world the whole lot of them would be sent to the Hague and brought up on war crimes.

... the blow back was the creation of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) and those
100s of thousands of Syrians who are now refugees are trying to flee a civil war
in their homeland and a major player in that war is ISIS.

Time line

US invades Iraq
The US takes control of Iraq
US ambassador Paul Bremmer send the Iraqi army home (w/their weapons)
Many members of that Iraqi Army (mostly Sunni) became al Qaeda in Iraq
al Qaeda in Iraq morphed into ISIS
The US trained and back new Iraqi army ran away from ISIS forces despite
out numbering them in some cases 5 to 1
Large areas of both Iraq and Syria fell under ISIS control
and things like this happened:

like the neocons planned, but if you can't bomb a country into a free market paradise, reducing it to a failed state will do. The question that the media never asks is why the same murderous assholes who created the ME mess still have so much influence over American foreign policy.
