You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Feb 19, 2016, 10:36 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I don't believe this is a slam against Ms. Lee. There was a lot of discussion months ago regarding some of the people around Ms. Lee taking advantage of her by trying to push the sequel when Ms. Lee herself did not seem to be interested in publishing it. Leave it.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I would leave it but the post lacks any sort of class and the poster should
have the good sense to take it down.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Insensitive and inappropriate.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: OH. COME. ON. For the love of anything Holy, please stop with these baseless, juvenile level, STUPID alerts!!!!
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

Re: your rude post
1. Lee's death is proof of no such thing. As people approach death, sometimes they change their minds about things such as revealing things kept private for years, decades, even a lifetime. That may or may not be what happened in this situation. We will never know for sure.
1. There is a time and place for everything. Somebody's passing is neither the time nor place for your flamebait.

(1,859 posts)Silencing speech just because you don't like someone's opinion speaks volumes.
I thought alerts were for trolls, attackers and the profane. Apparently there are too many people who just want to silence speech they don't like with them.
#6, thank you.

The poster is welcome to his/her opinion and welcome to express it and discuss it. Just someplace else.
I have nothing further to say on this. I don't want this thread hijacked any further.

(3,469 posts)It could have used some editing but it was a powerful book and I'm glad Harper Lee lived to see it published. I was initially concerned about the stories saying she was being taken advantage of but after investigating it further I don't believe that was true. She herself said that those claims we're silly.
I came to believe the "concerns" were part of our tendancy to infantalize the elderly as if a woman like Harper Lee couldn't decide for herself that she wanted her story to be told. And, Go Set A Watchman was ultimately just that-her story. I love the TKAM Atticus and was disappointed by GSAW Atticus but, that's part of what made it so powerful. I'm glad Nelle Harper Lee finally got to be the hero of her own life story.
