Sanders leads big in West Virginia poll

Source: W Post

By David Weigel

West Virginia, a lightly-polled state that gave Hillary Clinton one of her biggest victories in the 2008 Democratic primary, is the latest to show evidence of white, working-class voters moving toward Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). In a new West Virginia poll of 208 likely voters conducted for MetroNews, Sanders leads with 57 percent support; Clinton trails with 29 percent.

If those numbers held up in the May 10 primary, they would represent one of the primary season's most dramatic reversals. Eight years ago, West Virginia held one of the last contests, after an Obama win in North Carolina gave him an insurmountable delegate lead. Clinton, who had just won Indiana in a squeaker, suggested that "Senator Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again."

In West Virginia, she proved it, carrying every county and beating Obama by a 42-point margin. Victories like that convinced some 2016 Clinton endorsers, like Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), that she could win back the rural voters Obama had lost.

Yet in exit and entrance polls of the first three primary contests, Clinton has consistently lost less-educated white voters to Sanders. In Iowa, white voters who lacked a college degree went for Sanders by one point. In Nevada, those voters went for Sanders by eight points. In New Hampshire, Sanders won them by 38 points, obliterating Clinton in working-class towns she'd previously won.

But, after Iowa and Nevada, I would love to see the MANY states where Sanders is ahead ...

Something to sink our collective teeth into and say 'ah'! ...

I've been pretty morose since Saturday afternoon ... WV is nice, but, what else is there?

11. Why Does Sanders Only Lead Or Win In Small States?

Feb 2016

Perhaps Because The Larger States Have More Of A Diverse Democratic Electorate & The Independents Who Have Never Voted In A Democratic Primary Until One Of Their Own Has A Chance Of Winning, In The Small States They Are Affecting The Race But In Large States Their Vote Is Overshadowed By The Real Democratic Voters...

ONE post every few days in three months and you say that to 70% of the DUers?

Six months ago he was written off by people like Senator McCaskill because he is "a socialist". Hillary has been in the public eye since 92 and gets over just 1/2 the vote by underhanded means in diverse Nevada. Go check your math.

I want to beat Trump, not lose to him.

I went door to door at age 11 for Bobby in 68. WTF did U do?

Worked on Obama's Campaign At 18, The Ohio Governor's Race At 20, Obama's Reelection At 22.

I'm not saying your not a real Democrat if you support Sanders, I'm saying Independents who have never voted in a Democratic Primary are doing so this time because one of their own actually has a shot....

When I Joined DU At The Age of 14 Back In 2004 You Were Truly One Of The Posters I Thoroughly Enjoyed Reading Your Posts.

I Have Learned From You & Became A More Liberal Democrat Because Of You, And I Thank-You!

So In The Midst Of This Heated Primary We Are Bound To Disagree, But I Will Do My Part To Disagree Without Being Disagreeable.

Also If Bernie Sanders Becomes The Democratic Nominee, Rest Assured That I Will Work Just As Hard For Him As I Would've For Hillary Clinton!

Very unexpected claim you're making, signed a Real Democrat.

From what I've always observed, over a lifetime, real Democrats have supported working people, human rights, civil rights, while not so real "Democrats" have supported bankers, corporations, etc.

Until one of their own has a chance

A Real Democrat To Me Is Someone Who Votes For The Democratic Nominee Regardless Of Whether They Supported Him/Her In The Primary...
