Secret Service Agent Slams Photog To The Ground At Trump Rally
Source: Talking Points Memo
A Secret Service agent slammed a Time magazine photographer to the ground Monday during a rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, CNN reported. Several videos of the confrontation circulated on social media.
Time's Christopher Morris was tackled to the ground when he tried to photograph an outburst by protesters, according to CNNs Jim Acosta.
Morris told CNN that he stepped "18 inches" outside of the press pen to snap a photo of the departing protesters when he was approached by an agent. In video of the incident shared by the Independent Journal's Joe Perticone, Morris can be heard saying "fuck you" to the agent, who then tackled him to the ground:

UPDATE from TIME:
Chris Morris, a veteran White House photographer working on the campaign for TIME, stepped out of the press pen to photograph a Black Lives Matter protest that interrupted the speech. A video shows that Morris swore at a Secret Service agent who tried to move Morris back into the pen. A separate video of the event shows that the agent then grabbed Morris neck with both hands and threw him into a table and onto the ground.
Video also shows that once on the ground, Morris kicked at the agent who was trying to restrain him. Later, Morris briefly put his hand on the agents neck. After the exchange, Morris said that he did so in order to demonstrate the choke hold he had just experienced.
TIME has contacted the U.S. Secret Service to express concerns about the level and nature of the agents response. Morris has also expressed remorse for his part in escalating the confrontation. A TIME spokesperson said, We are relieved that Chris is feeling OK, and we expect him to be back at work soon.

Like any fresh situation, will wait for things to actually come out before really settling in on things.

The link is in the other thread about this.

A candidate with a following of belligerent idiots is not a healthy thing for a democracy.

(23,367 posts)It wouldn't surprise me if the protesters, the thugs that beat on them, and the cheerleaders are all actors hired by Trump.
He is a showman.

(50,986 posts)at that.
It would not displease me to witness the demise of his appeal to (now) roughly half the GOP voting base.
How this would crystalize in the real world remains up for discussion.

This is weird - one expects the Secret Service to be better at their jobs than this.

(8,303 posts)An odd story, but Secret Service protection is given to presidential nominees, and the Secret Service would bear responsibility for this.

(28,581 posts)I really am. I would expect his private security to behave like animals, but not our secret service. I hope that young man is removed from service. Shameful.

(3,118 posts)before the agent threw him to the floor. You may have to watch several times to see it as it goes fast but the agent touched Morris right arm and speaks into his ear. You then see Morris shove forward as the agent is shoved backwards - a chest bump. About half a second later, Morris is on the ground.
Add the "fuck you" that Morris gave the agent and I'm not surprised that he ended up on the floor. Morris = Not Bright.

(3,982 posts)I really have a problem too with the Secret Service being used to cage the press. Apparently Trump uses this as a "prop" and points to the fenced area as he articulates his feelings about the press.
I don't like Trump and I am not too impressed with our mostly servile MSM press, but it is really disturbing that the Secret Service are acting as bouncers to keep the press in place.

(51,129 posts)You're going down the right path, asking real questions about the situation. What was this guy doing? Maintaining a rope line that was crossed by a photographer trying to get a photo?
Getting slammed to the floor seems excessive, especially if use of force involved an objection to his free speech.
How's the camera?

(3,118 posts)but only one managed to get into an altercation over it. Had he not Fuck You'd and chest-bumped him, there would have been no bouncing. And I would think that reaction would have occurred no matter if they were at a Trump, Hillary, or Obama event.

Force can only be used when needed to arrest someone and/or there is an imminent threat of death or injury. There is no legal justification for slamming and choking someone who isn't being arrested and isn't creating an imminent risk of death/harm.
Oh wait... We live in a police state, so the SS don't even try to follow the laws.
