Senators Want Clinton Aide To Talk, After Receiving Immunity Deal

A pair of leading Republican senators are asking a former State Department official who reached an immunity deal with the Justice Department last week to answer their questions about Hillary Clintons homebrew email server.
In a letter sent last week but released on Tuesday morning, Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) told the aide, Bryan Pagliano, that he shouldnt have any reason not to appear.
Because the Department of Justice has granted you immunity from prosecution in this situation, there is no longer reasonable cause for you to believe that discussing these matters with the relevant oversight committees could result in your prosecution, wrote Grassley and Johnson, who lead the Judiciary and Homeland Security committees, respectively.
Pagliano was believed to be in charge of setting up Clintons email server at her New York home while she was secretary of State. He also worked on Clintons 2008 presidential campaign.

(25,270 posts)I don't think Kerry, Powell or Rice had their own e-mail server in their house. Nor did they move through the volume of e-mails that Hillary has. Did she ever explain why she felt it necessary to set up her own server?

But go ahead and trumpet these Republican efforts.

(18,402 posts)No thanks. That's not logical thinking, imo. Should Obama have resigned because the Republicans were constantly obstructing him and even in the beginning promulgating all types of birther lies and voting like 75 times to rescind Obamacare?

(18,402 posts)They've bullied Obama with obstruction and lies, and they will bully EITHER Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. I simply don't think we should applaud the bullies to try to bolster our own positions.

(1,196 posts)exactly what she did. It is also highly illegal to store classified info on a private server in your home.
She tried a new tact in last night's town hall. When asked how emails she wrote would be determined to be classified or not and by whom, she tried to say the decision of whether her emails were classified or not would only be made if they were wanting to make the info public. That's just silly.
Because only Hillary and the sender or receiver of each of her emails knew what was in them, nobody was allowed to determine if they contained classified info until they were vetted for public release by a judges order. She's trying to say that it is fine to keep over 2,100 emails containing sensitive information that would be classified, some of it top secret, on a private server in her home and in a bathroom closet at some two bit data storage place where it could be hacked by our adversaries because they were "not marked classified" when no one but her and the recipient had any access to determine if an email she sent should be marked classified.
She is spinning like a top.
Are you a Bernie supporter?

(1,196 posts)secret or not since no one but her and the recipient knew what was in the emails she stored on her private server. Apparently she didn't pay much or any attention to that responsibility as now that her emails have finally been vetted, over 2,100 of them have been found to contain classified info.
Her defense seems to be that because she didn't mark those emails as classified when she sent them(I'm talking here about the ones she sent), she should not be held responsible that they actually do contain classified info. Nobody else but her and the recipient had the opportunity to determine if they were classified for the years she kept them on a private server until now that they are finally being vetted.
I have to delete several dozen of private emails daily, or they will eventually be rejected. I'm still undecided, but this whole email business is a stretch.

(14,195 posts)Were the private emails showing quid pro quo between donations to Clinton foundation & weapons deals from state? the Saudis gave huge donations to the Clinton Foundation AND rcvd nice weapons contracts from state. The russians gave HUGE donations to Clinton Foundation and rcvd rights to an American uranium mine

(7,299 posts)We said that her aides lawyers demanded immunity to protect him from Republicans. If he would have testified under oath to the FBI, that would have essentially waived his fifth amendment right with respect to Congress. The Republicans desperately want to time another Congressional dog and pony show up with the general election. That doesn't surprise me. What surprises me is that Sanders supporters have lost so much perspective during these primaries that they have become de facto Republicans in the process. Congratulations. P.S.: You too will also fail in the politics of destruction.

(11,785 posts)Pagliano invoked the Fifth to avoid self-incrimination. The Benghazi committee didn't have the authority to prosecute him for anything, but he could be prosecuted by others for statements made in front of the committee (or anywhere else). Pagliano was granted immunity to compel him to testify as part of the FBI investigation. It was not something he asked for to "protect" him from Republicans: pleading the Fifth accomplished that.
There are three distinct, yet related things going on here. The Benghazi committee stuff is purely political, and yes, they'd love to get Pagliano in front of them in hopes of damaging Clinton. The other two are legitimate investigations being undertaken by the FBI and by the State Department. Trying to mash those three things together and wrap them up in a "Benghazi" blanket is a dishonest and desperate ploy.
