GOP Senator "Of Course We Would Consider SCOTUS Nom if Obama were Republican"

Source: Talking Points Memo

During a Thursday morning radio interview, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) candidly explained that Senate Republicans would take a different approach to a Supreme Court nominee if a Republican president were in office and replacing a conservative justice.

Johnson was asked on Wisconsin radio show "Morning Mess" about Senate Republicans' refusal to consider President Obama's forthcoming nomination to the Supreme Court. The host hypothesized that things would be different if Mitt Romney were in the White House.

"It’s a different situation," Johnson said. "Generally, and this is the way it works out politically, if you’re replacing — if a conservative president’s replacing a conservative justice, there’s a little more accommodation to it."

"But when you’re talking about a conservative justice now being replaced by a liberal president who would literally flip the court — you know, let’s face it, I don’t think anybody’s under any illusion — President Obama’s nominee would flip the court from a 5-4 conservative to a 5-4 liberal controlled court," the senator continued. "And that’s the concern, is that our Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms, our First Amendment rights to free speech and religious liberty, will be threatened. And so it’s an incredibly serious moment in terms of what’s the composition of the court going to be."

A.) I don't think Judge Judy would want to take the pay-cut. She makes like $50M/year.

B.) Trump would regret that...I suspect her personal politics are center-left, as well as accountability-driven and centered on fair outcomes. I've seen her utterly excoriate business owners for unjust and unethical business practices that might skirt legality but certainly are morally reprehensible.

And apparently from the SCOTUS, they still managed to FUNCTION and settle cases reaching a consensus vote on issues DESPITE missing Scalia. SCOTUS has real motivation to show the public they are perfectly capable of functioning with only eight justices. They are going to work hard in the interim to move things along to avoid ties.

Sen. J swore to protect and defend the US Constitution and in that document it says:

Article Two of the United States Constitution requires the President of the United States to nominate Supreme Court Justices.

"he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint ... Judges of the supreme Court..."

Do your job or quit senator.

because president Obama is and was resented by racists for being black, and because many Democrats believe elections happen every 4 years, many decent Democratic senators from normally blue (and blueish) states were replaced by psychopathic "tea party" dickweeds.

they know EXACTLY how important the conservative majority is to their power. this is the line in the sand. never mind that elections are supposed to have consequences, and this is one.

this is their hail mary; get to next January, when Pres. Cruz (ew) will nominate as big a troglodyte justice as possible, and then fight the Democratic minority into submission. HUGE ifs.

if they don't win in November they'll cave to a lame-duck appointment immediately.

The Republicans in the Senate today don't give a shit about the Constitution or ANYTHING President Obama wants to do.

President Obama should appoint the nominee to be the next Supreme Court justice, and they should hold a hearing for that nominee, regardless of whether he is liberal or conservative.

So, I think President Obama should throw caution to the wind and nominate the most liberal person he can find to be that nominee.

"The President has the right to make Supreme Court appointments" ~ Senator Mitch McConnell, 2005.

When I hear one them defile words like "morals," and "principles," I get furious. They are congenitally incapable of discerning the truth, let alone telling it, and not a single one of them gives a bleeding rat's ass about the "American People," except when invoking their name serves their malignant purposes.

Irredeemable sociopaths like Trump and his would-be storm troopers have finally ripped away the mask to expose conservatism for the despicable evil it really is.

My hatred of conservatism burns hotter than the surface of the Sun. And that goes double for DINOs that betray true Progressive ideals. Such treachery can -and will - NEVER be forgiven. You hearin' me, Double-dealing Debbie?
