Sanders Speaks To Packed Keyarena: 'Seattle Is Ready For A Political Revolution'
Source: KOMO News
SEATTLE -- Thousands showed up at Seattle's KeyArena for a raucous speech by Democratic Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders.
"I think Seattle is ready for a political revolution," Sanders said to cheers inside the arena.
Sanders applauded the city's move to incrementally phase in a $15-an-hour minimum wage by 2017 that took effect in April 2015.
"We have to do nationally what Seattle has already done - raise minimum wage to $15 bucks an hour," Sanders said.

(13,878 posts)If this was Kasich drawing huge crowds it would be all over the media, 24/7. Stories about his big comeback and how he's really challenging Trump. We're being spoon fed the election in a carefully managed way. People see it-it's one reason they are turning out for Bernie. He's real.

(108,990 posts)lots of favorable coverage.
Just google. He wasn't getting coverage last fall but he gets plenty now -- at least compared to Hillary. Neither of them get as much as Trump, however.

Thank you Seattle Times.
I live in Seattle and volunteered for the event.
Security was reeeeeeel tight.
Took forever for the faithful to get into the venue.
As for the media.
CNN, and MSNBC are obviously parts of the Clinton Campaign.

(1,400 posts)If both Hillary and Bernie were treated equally by the press, and just a little more fairly by the "machine" Bernie would be leading on all counts.
The deck is stacked against him, and us, and the change our country, and world so desperately need.
I don't blame Hillary.
I kind of like Hillary, and think she is a good person.
She is just the poster child of what is wrong with our party, and our pay to play completely corrupt government.
It isn't just Hillary.
It is the fact that most politicians have to sell their votes to the folks who will pay for their campaigns.
That and if someone removed money from "elections" the media would lose billions, and that simply isn't going to happen.....

(108,990 posts)it wouldn't all be positive -- just like it isn't for Hillary, who gets plenty of negative coverage.
Bernie would also be more getting pieces like this, from a progressive Vermont newspaper:
http://www.sevendaysvt.com/vermont/anger-management-sanders-fights-for-employees-except-his-own/Content?oid=2834657
According to some who have worked closely with Sanders over the years, "grumpy grandpa" doesn't even begin to describe it. They characterize the senator as rude, short-tempered and, occasionally, downright hostile. Though Sanders has spent much of his life fighting for working Vermonters, they say he mistreats the people working for him.
"As a supervisor, he was unbelievably abusive," says one former campaign staffer, who claims to have endured frequent verbal assaults. The double standard was clear: "He did things that, if he found out that another supervisor was doing in a workplace, he would go after them. You can't treat employees that way."
Like several others quoted in this column, the campaign worker would speak only on the condition of anonymity, saying that to do otherwise would constitute "career suicide" in a small state such as Vermont. But others echoed the former employee's story, saying the senator is prone to fits of anger.
"Bernie was an asshole," says a Democratic insider who worked with Sanders on the campaign trail. "Just unnecessarily an asshole."

(90,768 posts)....working for that guy. I was his admin assistant and I needed that job, but it is the only one I ever left without having another job lined up first. Once he yanked the phone out of my hand because I was not berating the person on the other end, but actually listening to them. And yeah, he was a screamer and a micromanager.
The whole article is one long flashback for me.
Recommend reading whole article at link. There's nothing like info from those that have worked with a man.
Edited to add a PS: Prof. G was brilliant and driven and a high achiever in his field. That seems to be the bottom lne for people who used to work for Bernie as well. Some people just aren't cut out to be supervisors, but they make a contribution nonetheless. Sorry about my flashback.

(108,990 posts)know what it is to work for a person like that. And it fits with Bernie's public persona, so it's not hard to believe. This is the same man who left the Seattle Westlake Rally without giving his keynote address, because he had lost patience with the BLM protesters.

(90,768 posts)But hell, this is a very odd year, politically. Hillary raises her voice for a speech to thousands, and pundits bitch that she's "shrill." Both Bernie and Trump, otoh, thunder and bellow and wave their arms around, and attract untold myriads to watch the show.
Go figure.

(108,990 posts)what's going on there. Women are held to a different standard -- and blamed for the pitch of their voices.
But go ahead with your agitprop.
Bernie graciously abdicated the podium at the Westlake rally for Social Security when it became clear that the BLM speakers agenda didn't include sharing the mic.

(37,748 posts)I like to pretend that people's experience and opinions are agitprop too if they don't align with my own experiences and opinions. Granted, we certainly illustrate our disdain for rational and objective thought by doing so, but as long we confirm and validate our own biases, that's all that really matters.

(24,010 posts)And "in a small state such as Vermont," they know him very well, indeed.
"...the campaign worker would speak only on the condition of anonymity, saying that to do otherwise would constitute 'career suicide' in a small state such as Vermont."--pwnmom (my emphasis)
There are always disgruntled people around--people jealous of another's success, people anxious to belittle others, people unhappy with themselves, people trying to make excuses for their own failures, whiney people, gossips. Also, people who are simply not suited to the rough and tumble of politics, people who are too sensitive for it, who 'read' strong opinions or criticism as 'abuse.'
This catty little article was obviously fed by such people.
Sanders has worked intimately with thousands of people in numerous campaigns, for mayor, for congress, for the senate, has worked with hundreds of congress critters--many of them RWers--on legislation, often winning amendments favorable to working people and liberal causes, and is now running a national campaign that is entirely unprecedented as to the method of successful fundraising (small donors) and issues never raised before on the national presidential level, such as campaign corruption, Wall Street crimes, the disappearing middle class, the scandal of college debt, the scandal of mass incarceration, the war on Iraq, U.S. interventionism and more.
It would be very surprising if there were NO backbiters, backstabbers and gossipy whiners trying to take him down a peg or two, among the thousands of people he has worked with.
For those of us who didn't get the memo, does the posting of this catty little article go together with the effort of Clinton supporters here to falsely claim that Sanders "stormed" out of a media interview (when in truth he merely ended it because of his tight schedule)? Did the memo say: Find anything at all that makes him seem angry or grumpy and get it up at DU pronto? Seems like there is a "theme" here.
I have a better theme: WTF was Clinton doing taking $10 million from the Saudis for the Clinton Foundation, then, as Sec of State, approving $29 billion in Boeing fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, one of the worst human rights violators on earth? And WTF was she doing repeating this pay-to-play for 36 other countries--including many human rights violators--who donated to the Clinton Foundation? Oh, and the U.S. defense contractors in these deals ALSO donated to the Clinton Foundation!
http://www.ibtimes.com/clinton-foundation-donors-got-weapons-deals-hillary-clintons-state-department-1934187
Theme: MAJOR CORRUPTION. Possibly CRIMINAL corruption.
Expand your themes is my advice. Find this kind of corruption in Bernie Sanders' life and career. Look hard. Look really hard.

(1,245 posts)That's all we need to know.
Sure, Hilary may've funneled contracts for weapons to countries that support terrorism in exchange for de-facto bribes to her family's Foundation, but at least she seems NICE ... so I'll vote for her, just BECAUSE!
Oh, and ... DERP!

(108,990 posts)They are disputed by the Sanders campaign, and I don't think there is any more substance to them than the fake Benghazi scandal -- but the claims will resurface if he's in the General.
http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2016/01/bernie-sanders-family-money
A new report suggests that Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders and his wife have repeatedly done the most socialist thing ever: funnel thousands of campaign and nonprofit dollars toward family members and friends.
According to an investigation by the right-leaning Washington Free Beacon, Sanderss spouse of 27 years, Jane OMeara Sanders, and his stepdaughter, Carina Driscoll, both drew sizable salaries from Sanderss House campaigns between 2000 and 2004. Public records examined by the online paper reportedly show OMeara Sanders was paid more than $90,000 for consulting and ad placement services between 2002 and 2004, while Driscoll received $65,000 from the campaign over the course of four years.
But while its not unheard of for campaigns to bring family members on board, the Free Beacons revelations about Sanderss wifes tenure as the president of Burlington College will certainly raise eyebrows. During her time there, the college paid nearly $500,000 to the Vermont Woodworking School, run by Driscoll, for classes, according to the Free Beacon. The college also reportedly paid tens of thousands of dollars to an all-inclusive Caribbean resort run by Jonathan Leopold, the son of a family friend, for a study-abroad program. Between 2009 and 2011, when OMeara Sanders stepped down, Burlington College paid around $68,000 to the resort. The Free Beacon reports that payments to both the woodworking school and the resort stopped soon after she left.
A request for comment from the Sanders campaign was not immediately returned.
Infamously, OMeara Sanders was not known for her fiscal responsibility while president of Burlington, allegedly overstating pledge donations while filing a loan with the Burlington Diocese of the Catholic Church, forcing them to reportedly eat a loss up to $2 million.
Update: Jeff Weaver, campaign manager for the Sanders campaign, blasted the report as rehashed, discredited republican attackssome from a decade ago. Factual[ly] wrong in a number of respects
Everything here has been churned through stories before. Just because a partisan source regurgitates them does not make it news.

(24,010 posts)...which Clinton supporters either don't know about or DON'T CARE about in their brainless partisanship.
You don't think there is "any substance" in this crapola about Sanders yet you repeat it here at length.
Isn't that Benghazi-ing while ignoring Clinton's Saudi/Clinton Foundation arms deal & all her pay-to-play & filthy speechifying to Wall Street not to mention filthy $$$ donor base? Her corruption is staggering!

(1,054 posts)He said they could seat 14,000 and 30,000 showed up. People were around International Fountain where Seattle Center was putting up a screen for them to watch it. Its was raining and I had a 9 yo with me and I didn't bring a coat so since we couldn't get in I got off the freeway, turned around and went home and watched it live streamed.
Bummer as I really wanted to see Bernie live and I wanted the 9 year-old to go to his first political rally.
