CIA-armed militias are shooting at Pentagon-armed ones in Syria
Source: Chicago tribune
Syrian militias armed by different parts of the U.S. war machine have begun to fight each other on the plains between the besieged city of Aleppo and the Turkish border, highlighting how little control U.S. intelligence officers and military planners have over the groups they have financed and trained in the bitter 5-year-old civil war.
The fighting has intensified over the past two months, as CIA-armed units and Pentagon-armed ones have repeatedly shot at each other as they have maneuvered through contested territory on the northern outskirts of Aleppo, U.S. officials and rebel leaders have confirmed.
In mid-February, a CIA-armed militia called Fursan al Haq, or Knights of Righteousness, was run out of the town of Marea, about 20 miles north of Aleppo, by Pentagon-backed Syrian Democratic Forces moving in from Kurdish-controlled areas to the east.
"Any faction that attacks us, regardless from where it gets its support, we will fight it," said Maj. Fares Bayoush, a leader of Fursan al Ha
But such skirmishes have become routine.

(307 posts)That's why the US continues to sell weapons to the Saudi headchoppers and looks the other way on the Turkish oil sales and fighter support for ISIS. The Saudi lobby has its tentacles wrapped all through Washington and they are the number one financiers of ISIS. They fight side by side in Yemen in the forgotten war. They lobby through the Edelman and the Podesta Group and Hillary and many others continue to receive money from Saudi royal family members. Seems a bit hypocritical to say they care about victims of ISIS in Paris and Brussels when they are receiving financial support from the Saudi regime themselves.

Executions by Southern Militants
On August 23, southern extremist fighters brought an unidentified group of Houthi prisoners in orange jumpsuits out on a boat into the middle of the port of Aden and blew the boat up, according to reports received by Human Rights Watch. They reportedly filmed the explosion to the backdrop of the extremist group Islamic State, also known as ISIS, flags raised on the port buildings, prompting the media to report that the Islamist armed group Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) had taken control of the port.

(7,723 posts)But you're right, it's probably nothing new. There was that book "The Best Enemy Money Can Buy" about how the US helped arm the USSR, and of course we built up Saddam Hussein before we decided he was a monster. Back in the 1930's we helped build up Hitler.

(307 posts)in order to pit the terror states against Russia in a large regional war. Putin seems to have not taken the bait once again and pulled his fighter jets out before it was to all go down. Now he is waiting to see what the Turks and Saudis will do. A smart chess move. He has done the same with the Ukrainian Nazis that the US backed. No one told me that the US were going to be the bad guys in WW3.

(17,956 posts)there are no moderate rebel groups in Syria!!!!!!!!!! If the existing regime falls, just like in Libya, the hard asses and crazies start fighting each other. Sometime even if the regime doesn't fall. That's just what hard asses and crazies do. And why is the US so quick to oppose Assad? Since when has the US had any qualms supporting a brutal foreign dictator in the name of stability and security? It sucks, no doubt, but it's better than arming hard asses and crazies. Once again, we've created a CF in another middle eastern country.

(23,155 posts)First we gave the start up munitions to OBL and Al Quaeda was formed
Then we piss off the Sunnis in Iraq and put in a government that represses them constantly, so they were fertile ground for ISIS
Then American war profiteers like Halliburton leave munitions and trucks all over the country, billions of $$ worth, with no reprisal from the government. This is picked up and used by Sunnis and now ISIS
McCain goes to Syria and funds a group there, turns out they formed ISIS and used munitions from there and from Iraq
Then FBI and CIA fund different groups that fight each other.

(25,704 posts)The US is usually content to be on both sides of a war. Here we are supplying these two groups, the Iraqi government, Kurds, Turkey and we just signed an agreement with Iran. That is six sides in this war!!!! And I probably missed some.
This is so stupid, so ignorant it could only be dreamt up by the US.

Just think of all the medicine, space travel, free energy, environmental cleanup and art that could be made with all that ammo. Plus food and shelter. We don't have to take the dark road.

(90,061 posts)Lockheed Martin is expanding various munition factories to meet rising demand from the U.S. and its partners fighting the Islamic State and to start equipping American warplanes for great-power wars at sea.
We are seeing a lot of international demand for our product set, Frank St. John, Lockheeds vice president of tactical missiles, said Tuesday. Thats causing us to do a lot of work in international partnerships and co-production and were very excited about those opportunities.
In particular, U.S. and allies are burning through their stocks of Lockheeds Hellfire missile, the signature weapon of Predator and Reaper drones. Helicopters and fixed-wing planes also carry the versatile laser-guided weapon.
It requires a little bit of investment on our part to expand the factories, but the demand is there and were keeping up with it [and] were staying ahead of it, St. John said.
