80 Big-Name Business Leaders Just Took A Stand Against North Carolina’s Anti-LGBT Law

Source: HuffPo

March 29, 2016
They say the bill is bad for economic development.

The fight against North Carolina’s new anti-LGBT law gained some high-profile support on Tuesday, when more than 80 prominent business leaders signed a letter calling for a full repeal.

“We believe that HB 2 will make it far more challenging for businesses across the state to recruit and retain the nation’s best and brightest workers and attract the most talented students from across the country.”

I don't think the N.C. legislature is interested in attracting the best and the brightest to the state - the best and brightest would NOT VOTE for them!

For example, it is the fifth story on the BBC site today. The threat from the boycot is real and growing.

The overreach of the bill goes far beyond transgender or even gender. It also tramples worker rights, nullifies local ordinances, and generally screws up lots of things.

The only real recourse at this point is through the Federal courts. There is no way to get the legislature to reconvene and reverse their actions, not with this current batch of Republican idiots. I only hope that this will cause them to lose in November. Unfortunately, too many of their supporters favor this bill.

Since he is still willing to donate to McCory, McCory can ignore the blacklash from the state's business community. He will still have the funds to run for reelection.

With the Supreme Court ruling and the majority of Americans being more understanding, I really thought we as a nation had turned the corner. Now I have a feeling this kind of garbage legislation will be popping up in all the republican controlled state legislatures. I see people dancing because they think the demise of the republican party is at hand, there will be no rejoicing on my part until we control statehouses and Congress, which we are a long ways from doing.

Once again, conservatives will be on the wrong side of history.

Peace

I've returned to NC after being away for about 20 years (in the military) and our state has been politically hijacked---this particular bill was passed in a "10 to midnight" type situation.

There's blame to go all around...the Democratic Party in this state is less than impressive. With luck sanity will return in the next 3-5 years.

This, and all the other bullshit legislation my home state has passed since I left in '04, makes me never want to go back.
Maybe this will start moving things in a positive direction.

The NC GOP leadership gerrymandered the districts for state legislature and Congress alike. They suppressed the vote with Jim Crow style fear campaigns and insinuations. They own 4/5 of the media here and control public awareness by editing the news, shaping the dialog and burying the real story. They have resurrected the ghost of Jesse Helms and given it a loud and obnoxious voice in 21st century North Carolina.

They have lied, cheated and stolen at every turn imaginable. They are owned by Art Pope and the Koch Brothers who wrote this abomination and directed the midnight attack that got it passed with no public discussion or news coverage. They are probably as corrupt as the outgoing VA governor was, but we haven't pinned it on them yet because they have hidden much of what was formerly visible governance by meeting secretly outside the walls of the legislature to arrange the public vote therein. The is no doubt that they and the governor have made all manner of favored crony deals. But for the time being the records are held away from daylight due to legislative interference in the public's right to know.

I think there is a moon near Saturn they belong on.

My neighbors are life long NC Republicans who recently surprised me when told me they do not recognize the party anymore and have no respect for McCrory or the legislature. They have some doubts about LGBT life style but they don't see the need to act with such vehement hostility as in the language and sweep of the law. They also have grave doubts about the sweep of Raleigh politics in trying to control every facet of city, town, and county governance.
