Gov. Robert Bentley: 'I have no intentions of resigning'; Rebekah Mason Caldwell resigns
Source: Atlanta Journal
Gov. Robert Bentley on Wednesday reiterated that he has no plans to resign from office, a week after admitting to making inappropriate sexual comments to his top adviser.
Speaking to reporters outside the Franklin County Courthouse, Bentley also hinted that there may be personnel changes in his administration which could be interpreted as an indication senior political adviser Rebekah Caldwell Mason will no longer serve in that role.
Later Wednesday afternoon, Mason announced her resignation as the governor's senior political adviser.
Mason is the woman to whom Bentley was secretly recorded making sexual comments to during a phone call two years ago. Bentley's wife of 50 years, Dianne, subsequently filed for divorce.

They carried on an affair. It ended the governor's marriage. There are accusations of corruption regarding the affair, the creation of a slush fund to pay her and her getting a high paying job in his administration. They were caught with a secret safe deposit box at a bank in both their names which was used to hide money from his ex-wife.
There were no inappropriate comments and she was no victim.

But man, he did turn cold, he said "I appreciate Rebekah Mason's service to my administration and the people of this state.
I wish the best for her and her family."

(60,010 posts)She resigns a job of questionable legality, but gets to keep ( for now) the 400 plus K she was already paid.
Her husband gets to keep his job as head of the governor's Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives, which is not exactly a demanding chore, and pays 91,000 a year!
Bentley gets to keep the Governor ship, for now...there is an impeachment bill being waved around.
and hopefully his wife made out ok in the divorce.
She is being a lot more charitable than I would have been.
