Police investigating bomb threat at Peoria International Airport

Source: WREX

WEEK News 25 in Peoria reports that the Peoria International Airport was partially evacuated due to a suspicious package, and the Peoria County Sheriff says the package contains explosives.

Police say the package was found in the check-in area of the airport. Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy told 1470 WMBD that the package contained dynamite, a timer and bottles of fluid.

WEEK's Doug Smith says flights have been delayed at the airport.

Police are still on scene at the airport, and traffic has been blocked to the airport while crews investigate the possible bomb.

From an old song.

But when you drive across Illinois, you see signs for Peoria. Makes me think of that phrase every time.

It was like Sheboygan? Really?

I don't think I could have taken the winters. They are bad enough in Cleveland.

The only thing "International" means is that customs service is available on the airport, which means you can use it as a direct destination from a Canadian airport.

I was just thinking (I used to live in Bloomington-Normal) - Peoria has an international airport?

Kind of doubt this is foreign terrorism, for some reason. Unless the point would have been that this can happen anywhere.

It it is "International Terrorism," I suspect whoever was behind it was looking for weaknesses in our system.

It is difficult to come up with a plausible motive if it isn't.

In many cases, probably at Peoria, you have to give them several hours advance notice that you're coming. It's not a full-time customs operation. It's mainly for cargo shipments or for private jets that don't want to land at some place like O'Hare because of heavy traffic or super-high landing fees.

Now they know they can discount about 150,000,000 men. That makes the job OH! so much easier!!

Yes, they have an airport...relatively small, but they've expanded recently.

Scary stuff.

UPDATE: WEEK in Peoria reports a Peoria County Sheriff's deputy says the suspected bomb found at the Peoria International Airport is fake.

The official says a woman who travels to Planned Parenthood clinics across the country uses the fake bomb as a demonstration item. She attempted to check a package with the fake bomb at about 6:30 a.m., and was detained by the TSA.
