Bryan Adams Cancels Mississippi Show, Citing State's New Law
Source: ABC News
Canadian rocker Bryan Adams is canceling a performance this week in Mississippi, citing the state's new law that allows religious groups and some private businesses to refuse service to gay couples.
Adams said in a statement Sunday night that he was canceling a show Thursday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.
The singer says he can't "in good conscience" perform in a state where "certain people are being denied their civil rights due to their sexual orientation."
The move comes after Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band canceled a Sunday show in Greensboro, North Carolina, because of the state's new law blocking anti-discrimination rules for the LGBT community.

(49,007 posts)Every time it happens, they have to give up some music they love, swearing they will never play it again. Their world gets more and more circumscribed, more and more insular. But they are ok with that. Few of them have even a dim awareness of just how closed in their closed-mindedness has made their lives.

(2,025 posts)if they have to make a statement this way they would play the shows that are already scheduled and then state that they won't be coming to the state again. All this does is punish the fans who bought tickets, who now don't get to see the concert they paid money for and have to jump through hoops to get their money back.

(2,450 posts)Long term though, it matters a lot. And it supports the victims within the state and elsewhere. It makes a big difference, even if we can't see it.
And the fans make make their complaints heard to the correct people, their legislators.

(66,388 posts)Both are tenors, but there the resembles ends, in my opinion. Adams is noted for his raspy vocals, whereas Meatloaf's voice is very reedy. And the music they perform differs remarkably. Bryan Adams plays likeable, but slightly generic, straight-ahead rock and roll. Meatloaf sings Jim Steinman's highly-theatrical, all-or-nothing, now-or-never, do-or-die stadium rock.
