Tennessee lawmakers to vote on override of Bible bill veto

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee lawmakers are scheduled to vote Wednesday on an effort to override Gov. Bill Haslam's veto of a bill seeking to make the Bible the state's official book.
The Republican governor last week turned back the bill over constitutional concerns and because of concerns the measure "trivializes" what he considers a sacred text.
Sponsors argued that the measure seeks to honor the economic and historical impact of the Bible in Tennessee history, rather than a state endorsement of religion.
But opponents say it diminishes the significance of the Bible to place it alongside other state symbols like the official salamander, reptile or rock.

"Tennessee, as we all know, was part of the Confederate States of America, which was formed in order to maintain the legal right for rich people to own other human beings as slaves. Slaves in Tennessee were treated horribly, just as Jesus said they ought to be. Its right there in the Christian Bible."

(86,646 posts)This will obviously end up in federal court which is not cheap and costs the taxpayers for the entertainment of the oligarchy. Anything they can do to distract from them actually doing their jobs ... oh wait, their jobs are making into law what their owners want for the sake of easier control of the masses and acquisition of all wealth.

They'll just have to pray harder, and handle more snakes!
This is for the skilled snake handlers: grabbing the snake and healing the girl simultaneously.[/center]
