Calling Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton a top-notch "change-maker," former President Bill Clinton urged unity and economic opportunity in a half-hour stump speech this afternoon in Cambria County.

He explained her proposals on college affordability, which would increase work-study funds and let alumni refinance their debt. Addressing the epidemic of heroin and prescription-drug abuse, Mr. Clinton called the problem personal. He said several children of his friends have died of overdoses.
Mrs. Clinton would treat the scourge as a public-health matter and advocate for more mental health facilities, among other provisions, he said.
"There are a lot of things we need to do, but we can't do any of it by dividing the country," Mr. Clinton said.......................

Speaking of dividing the country, Hillary need only look unto themselves to help stop that.

(1,150 posts)I've heard an awful lot of weasel words that mean absolutely nothing but sound more or less upbeat during my years as a lawyer and simply being engaged in the political process.
But the Clintons seem to me to have taken the art to an entirely new level during this campaign. Starting with 'I want to fight for everyday Americans' (instead of merely 3-or-4-days-of-the-week-Americans), moving on with an 'H' logo that has blue and red and an arrow pointing to the right and makes no sense whatsoever, hanging in there with 'I want to be your champion!' (a champion is someone who stands in for a person unable to engage in some sort of fight herself/himself...), and this.
The 'I'm so sick of Bernie Sanders lying about me' episode was actually refreshing to me - it suggested that there were remnants of an actual human being somewhere in there. A rather pouty and arrogant human being, maybe, but at least not an entity utterly consumed by relentless calculate-the-best-weasel-words-for-this-situation compulsive disorder.
At least the Bushes said mind-numbingly dumb things with utter contempt for basic rules of English grammar. The Clintons, on the other hand, are masters of speaking a lot while saying absolutely nothing with good grammar...

(1,957 posts)it is that the solutions suggested are couched in terms of ensuring return to investors.
Eg: "public-health matter and advocate for more mental health facilities". IOW, make sure that the taxpayers assume the burden for those people who cannot cope with an untenable situation, like lack of opportunity and a secure future, without taking the steps necessary to remove the cause of the disease.
I had a very close friend who suffered from substance abuse. He spent over a quarter of his life in treatment, drying out and grasping for a future. Then came out and couldn't find a good job or place to live. After some months of that, back into the trap.
He died in his 50s.
And to deal with crushing student debt? Refinance.
Don't attack the cause of the debt, exorbitant fees and tuition. Pass on the cost and continue the charade. Make sure that any investment in an educated society is a "personal responsibility".
Meanwhile the corporations don't have to invest anything in this country.

Nothing much is going to change. 4 more years of status quo or getting marginally worse for most people.
Bill is delusional.
