LePage Declares 2 Maine Groups 'Enemies'
Source: Maine NPR
Gov. Paul LePage used an address to the Maine GOP convention over the weekend to attack what he says are the greatest enemies to prosperity in the state: the Natural Resources Council of Maine and the Maine Peoples Alliance.
Representatives of the environmental and progressive advocacy organizations responded by saying the governor should work on uniting the state rather than dividing it.
LePage blames the NRCM for working to defeat bills such as one backed by the J.D. Irving Corp. to allow mining in Aroostook County and enact ones he hates, like one to expand solar energy development. And he blames the Maine Peoples Alliance for getting a $12 per hour minimum wage bill on this falls ballot and opposing a competing ballot question that he supports.
LePage told Republicans in Bangor Saturday that those groups are his enemies and they should be theirs.

(2,993 posts)An elected official should serve all of his/her constituents. By setting groups of his fellow Maine citizens apart as "enemies," he is explicitly declining that responsibility and should be removed from office as soon as possible.

Hillary has the same approach - David Brock and DWS.
LePage keeps some interesting political company.

(10,597 posts)... that the election of public officials such as Gov LePage, Gov Christie, Gov Scott Walker, R Snyder (MI), etc. have paved the way for a President candidate like Donald Trump. Does anyone else see the trend? LePage seems to be the craziest of them all. Seriously. The man needs to be institutionalized permanently with the seriously mentally deranged. What's with the electorate in Maine? Didn't they reelect LePage for a second term?

(41,758 posts)The "independent" in each race pulled voters away from the Dem candidate.
LePew appointed this guy to a cushy UMaine job.
In the last election, the Dem candidate was openly gay and there was a bear hunting referendum - that brought the yahoos out of the woodwork and they voted for LePew.
This November there will be a minimum wage increase, a weed legalization initiative (fingers crossed) and a ranked choice voting referendum items on the ballot.
Hopefully, this will motivate dem-leaning voters to go an vote - and give a LePew veto-proof majority in the legislature.
