Child told Paterno of sex abuse in 1976, decades before official action

Source: Penn Live

A new bombshell dropped in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal Thursday.

It came in the form of a single line in a court order on a related insurance coverage case involving Penn State, and its full ramifications can't immediately be gauged.

But that line was eye-popping in itself.

The line in question states that one of Penn State's insurers has claimed "in 1976, a child allegedly reported to PSU's Head Coach Joseph Paterno that he (the child) was sexually molested by Sandusky."

What is it about this that is worth dredging up this nasty -- but filthy and oh-so-sensational -- story? A morbid desire to talk about child molestation?

I'm really serious about this: why bring up the same shit on someone who has been completely disgraced?

Parts of Penn State nation still are deeply divided over questions like whether Paterno was wrongly fired in the wake of Sandusky's November 2011 arrest, and whether the coach's Beaver Stadium statue - taken down in the summer of 2012 - should be reinstalled there or somewhere else on the campus.

we are just remembering our heritage. Bullshit. And the presumptive Republican nominee for President dog whistled campaigning for the Pennsylvania primary "How's Joe Paterno? We're gonna bring that back? Right? How about that whole deal?" Yeah right, screw that political correctness, Paterno was a GREAT guy and you can say so. Just like the Confederate flag this piece of crap can not be allowed to regain his legendary stature and let is supporters gradually sweep his crimes under the rug.

Or you would if you had made the gargantuan effort to read the whole article from the OP link. But hey, why bother your beautiful mind!

I echo the comments in this thread. I've lived in Pennsylvania the past 46 years and having many friends, neighbors and co-workers who are Penn State alums. For a lot of these folks, their status as Penn State alums is the accomplishment of which they are proudest. There is a very strong effort to reinstate Joe Paterno to the status of saint.

Then there's the question of whether Penn State will recoup the $60 million it's paid out to victims.

This information is a bombshell.

The order also cites separate references in 1987 and 1988 in which unnamed assistant coaches witnessed inappropriate contact between Sandusky and unidentified children, and a 1988 case that was supposedly referred to Penn State's athletic director at the time.
The insurance case involves big money for Penn State, which hopes to be reimbursed for most of the $60 million-plus it has paid in recent years to settle nearly 30 civil claims pertaining to abuse by Sandusky.

******************************

Other sections of Glazer's pre-trial order Thursday held that the university cannot claim coverage for Sandusky settlements for abuses started between 1992 and 1999 because of specific provisions in policies written in those years excluding claims of sexual abuse.

But it is the Paterno allegation that is eye-popping, because of the unending national conversation and curiosity over how much the late and legendary Penn State coach may have known about Sandusky's actions during their lengthy careers together.

Just yesterday, bucko, Sandusky scored a victory toward getting a new trial! The latest court order opens the door for all the state attorney general's investigators and all the victims to be dragged back into depositions/testifying in future court proceedings.

Sandusky is the classic pedophile - he does not believe he is guilty of any crime because he LUUUUUVED all those little guys.

Jerry Sandusky's attorneys are granted court date to press claims for a new trial

http://www.pennlive.com/news/2016/05/jerry_sanduskys_attorneys_are.html

BELLEFONTE - Nearly four years after his conviction for serial sexual abuse of children, former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky scored a key procedural win in his latest appeal.

Judge John Cleland ruled Thursday that he will grant an evidentiary hearing permitting Sandusky to test three of the most central claims to his arguments that he was denied a fair trial in 2012. Cleland set the new hearing for May 20, in Centre County court.

To date, no evidence of an illicit leak has been presented, but this hearing will provide the defense their best opportunity to date to directly question participants in the case about leaks under oath.

The defense and prosecution have also been invited to supply written arguments on another point raised in Sandusky's appeal: That the attorney general's office lacked jurisdiction to place the Sandusky case before a grand jury.

On Edit: To juries: "bucko" is a term of teasing endearment used by Richie Cunningham toward the Fonz.

Well gee whiz - settlements have cost Penn State over $60 million, which it is trying to recoup. But really, don't trouble your beautiful mind about such sordid goings-on.

The OP specifically refers to Sandusky.

You chose to have a heart attack about Sandusky. Go for it. Scream, yell, stomp your feet, turn red in the face. I don't care. I'm not speaking of him, now or previously.

that Paterno was dead? Is there some new governing law that the actions and statements of dead people cannot be referred to in a legal proceeding? Would that be a federal level or just for Pennsylvania?

This will be YUGE news to all the estates and trusts lawyers! We might as well just close down Orphans Court at once! WOW!

And . . . and. . . and . . . no more referring to the deceased in murder trials!

My god, man (or woman) you've completely re-written whole areas of law!
