BETHESDA, Md. (WJLA) - Two men and one woman were injured in a shooting at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda Friday morning, according to police.
Montgomery County Police responded to 7101 Democracy Blvd. at approximately 11:30 a.m.
A second shooting was reported shortly after the first at a Giant grocery store located in the 13700 block of Connecticut Avenue at approximately 11:50 a.m.
There was speculation that the suspect in both of the shootings was 62-year-old Eulalio Tordil, who was already wanted in connection with the shooting death of his estranged wife Gladys Tordil Thursday, sources told ABC7.
Nearby Walter Johnson High School, Tilden Middle School and Bells Mill Elementary were all on "shelter in place" status while the incidents were under investigation.
The condition of the victims was not yet known.

Police said three people have been shot at Westfield Montgomery Mall at 7101 Democracy Blvd. in Bethesda on Friday morning and that a suspect is at large.
Soon after, a woman was fatally shot at a grocery store several miles away, and authorities are investigating whether the incidents are linked.
Montgomery County Assistant Police Chief Darryl McSwain said they responded to a call at 11 a.m. for a report of a person shot at the mall in Bethesda. He said an initial investigation found that it appeared that one person was shot in a parking lot, and then two others who came to help also were shot. Two of the victims are men and one is a woman. He did not say what their conditions were.
McSwain said there is no suspect in custody but there is a person of interest and hopefully we can capture him in the near future. He said they had no reason to believe the victims knew the suspect in the mall shooting.

(9,766 posts)Court records show a domestic violence stayaway order had been filed against Eulalio Tordil on March 3, as part of a custody case with Gladys Tordil.
In the courts final order, entered March 17, Eulalio Tordil, of Adelphi, was ordered to stay away from his estranged wife, her residence and her place of employment. A Prince Georges Public School website lists Gladys Tordil as an employee at Parkdale High School.
In addition, Eulalio Tordil had been ordered to turn over his firearms in the March 17 ruling.
Tordil is employed as a law enforcement officer with the Federal Protective Service.
After the ruling, FPS placed him on administrative duties, and removed his service weapon, badge and credentials. He is now on administrative leave, according to an FPS official, who says the agency is cooperating with Prince Georges County police.
Tordil turned over his service weapon to the Prince Georges County Office of the Sheriff on March 6, and handed over six more weapons on March 17, when the final order became effective.

Three people have been shot at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, Maryland, and another killed at a nearby grocery store, with police suggesting that one or both incidents may be related to a deadly shooting in the area yesterday.
The Montgomery County Police Department said one person was shot at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, Maryland, today after an argument, and then two people who came to the victim's aid were also shot. The suspect remains at large, according to police.
One of the victims has died; another is in critical condition and the third suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Montgomery County police said.
Meanwhile, a woman was killed this morning in a shooting at a Giant grocery store in the Aspen Hill area, about 8 miles away from the mall.
The Prince George's County Police Department said today it's "looking into the possibility" that Eulalio Tordil, a man wanted for allegedly shooting and killing his estranged wife Thursday in the parking lot of High Point High School in Beltsville, was also the shooter in Montgomery County this morning. Police did not immediately say which of the today's two Montgomery County shootings Tordil may be connected to or whether he could be connected to both.

justiceischeap
(14,040 posts)Apparently he was in that area the whole time. They just reported on ABC7 that he sat in the Boston Market eating lunch for at least an hour. As soon as he came out of the Boston Market, his car was already surrounded by unmarked cop cars. When he tried driving off, they then rammed him.

(57,516 posts)But seriously....
I have no idea what the strategy of law enforcement personnel on the scene was, but I gather that they felt that waiting until he left Boston Market was a lower risk (i.e., for anyone nearby) strategy than trying to corner him inside the restaurant mid-pot pie.
I am not familiar with this shopping center.

I read "reports" on Twitter about 2 hours ago that the police were searching Michael's but didn't put much stock in that 'cause Twitter. Then he sat in the BM for at least an hour, enjoying his last free lunch (I'd have gone to China King if I knew it was my last meal).
They're just reporting on ABC7 they had him under surveillance so I'm guessing they had an idea he was in one of those stores.

(130,995 posts)across the street from the third shooting, in the parking lot of a mini-mall where officers had spotted the car he was reported driving, a rented silver Hyundai Elantra sedan. Plainclothes officers watched him for over an hour as he went in and out of shops and ate lunch, but waited until he walked back to the car, away from bystanders. At that point, witnesses told local TV stations, several unmarked police vehicles swooped in and boxed him in, and officers jumped out with guns drawn.
We did not want to endanger anyone and have a shootout when we took him into custody, J. Thomas Manger, the Montgomery County police chief, said in explaining the delay. There was some thought that may have been what he wanted.
In fact, in a bulletin issued Thursday, the Prince Georges County police indicated that Mr. Tordil had talked about committing suicide by cop.'

(14,040 posts)So, that McD's was off limits. And I'm situated pretty much in the middle of those two McD's so I opted for where the shooter hadn't been.
I'm actually getting ready to move to Virginia, but I'd still meet up sometime.
