North Carolina files lawsuit against the federal government over ‘bathroom bill’

Source: W Post

By Mark Berman and Niraj Chokshi

North Carolina governor Pat McCrory filed a lawsuit Monday against the Justice Department, asking a federal court to state that its so-called “bathroom law” is not discriminatory.

In the complaint, McCrory accused the federal government of “baseless and blatant overreach.”

“This is an attempt to unilaterally rewrite long-established federal civil rights laws,” the lawsuit stated

McCrory had said that he would respond Monday to the Justice Department’s request that he abandon the state’s “bathroom bill,” as both sides approached the deadline in a dispute that could eventually wind up in court.

FULL story and video at link.

Strategic move to engage Roy Cooper in a game of political wits, no doubt. Let the palm greasing begin. As if the good folks of NC have nothing else on their minds but how to waste money and look like fools. I cannot wait to see the rear end of McCrook!

Note should also be made that HB2 has implications beyond the bathroom that are being overlooked.

I'd be ashamed if I weren't so angry.

North Carolina doesn't deserve this.

express their oppresseive "freedom" after getting kicked out of a couple other European countries... Mainly England and then Holland, I believe is correct.
In no way did the Pilgrims establish our government as a "Christian nation". Our government was arrived at after the Revolutionary War long after the Pilgrims arrived.

The Army can't intervene in this anyway...the Posse Comitatus Act says the military can't do civil law enforcement in the US. During the Hurricane Andrew relief effort my division took part in, we could only use our Military Police to direct traffic - an extreme need in an area with no traffic lights and no street signs. This left the civilian cops free to arrest looters. We even tried getting our people deputized into the Dade County Sheriff's Office - no dice. The attorney general wouldn't hear of it - "they are in the military, the military cannot enforce the law against civilians no matter what, end of story." This has good parts and bad parts. The good part is it showed Posse Comitatus was inviolable. The bad part is the shortage of cops in the area caused vigilantism to rise dramatically.

New Democratic governor John Del Edwards overturned the Anti-LGBT laws Jindal enacted.

Edwards was considered a moderate Democrat but so far he's done good in Louidiana, enacting Obamacare too.

will take great delight in seeing the courts tell McCrory that his Hate Bill 2 is unconstitutional and repeal it, ignore enforcing it, or
get out his red pencil to figure out how to make up for federal dollars no longer coming to NC.

I cannot begin to tell you, as a resident of NC, how utterly disgusted I am with McCrory and his merry band of bigots in the Legislature.
These Republican a$$holes have done a very good job of destroying what was--only four years ago--a progressive southern state.
They have really done a lot of harm. I almost wish we could bring back the practice of tar and feathers and riding them out of town
on a rail. They deserve it.

(It probably would work better for women to protest since they're the people supposedly being saved from attack by this bill.) Gather all your friends and go to a public restroom. Then call the police. If this is a law that must be enforced, the police must determine who is eligible to use the women's room and who is not. Make a point of stressing how badly you have to use the restroom . . . a very brave move might be to pee on the sidewalk. This is a stupid, stupid law that apparently requires police to check both birth certificates and genitalia . . . so force the issue. How will the people of North Carolina feel about police officers doing gyn exams?
