Protesters Block Train Tracks to 2 Washington Refineries

Source: ABC News

Dozens of climate activists have blocked railroad tracks leading to two oil refineries in northwest Washington state to oppose the flow of oil from trains to those facilities.

About 150 people spent the night in tents pitched on the railroad tracks near Anacortes, about 70 miles north of Seattle. Many of them were feeling jubilant Saturday morning as they prepared for a second day of demonstrations targeting the nearby Shell and Tesoro oil refineries.

Dozens more are expected to join the protesters who have formed a barricade on the tracks, said Ahmed Gaya, a spokesman with the Break Free Pacific Northwest who also spent the night on the tracks.

"The plan is to hold this space," he said. "People in the Northwest and around the world are prepared to build these movements (of mass disobedience) and keep fossil fuels in the ground.

Texas isn't open for Tesla sales, governor says

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said that Tesla Motors Inc. shouldn’t expect to open Lone Star state sales outlets any time soon.

For years, Tesla has been working to roll back state laws across the U.S. to allow the company to sell its $100,000 vehicle without a traditional dealership. Tesla decries the system as an unfair monopoly. Auto dealers say the practice protects family-owned businesses and their customers.

Big Oil and Big Fossil Fuel Sales counts more than Pollution your health, years ago the electric trolley cars switched to gas/diesel fuel in many places because big oil bought off politicians, now we have citizens united a complete misnomer, buying politicians at will with $millions in legal bribery.

and I suppose they will all want to fill up their cars on the way back home afterward too?

Maybe the best way to end the industry is to stop using fuel.

I've always considered oil companies worst than drug dealers or just like drug dealers. Real scumbags.

52 Climate Activists Arrested in Washington Railroad Protest

By DONNA GORDON BLANKINSHIP, ASSOCIATED PRESS
SEATTLE — May 15, 2016, 2:06 PM ET

Authorities cleared the railroad tracks of protesters and arrested 52 climate activists Sunday morning in Washington state, after a two-day shutdown.

About 150 people spent the night in tents and sleeping bags on the tracks near two refineries in northwest Washington, according to BNSF Railway spokesman Gus Melonas.

They were asked to leave at about 5 a.m. and most gathered their belongings and left the area near Anacortes, Melonas said.

"It was peaceful," he said. "Eighty percent removed their belongings and cleared out."

The 52 people arrested were cited for trespassing, according to the Skagit County Department of Emergency Management. One person was also cited for resisting arrest.
