McAuliffe expresses 'shock' at reports of DOJ probe

Source: Politico.com

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Tuesday expressed “shock” at reports he is under federal investigation for questionable campaign contributions, and insisted that any such probe should have no bearing on the Clinton Foundation.

CNN first reported on Monday that McAuliffe, a longtime friend and fundraiser of the Clintons, is being investigated by the FBI and Justice Department for accepting $120,000 for his gubernatorial campaign from companies controlled by Chinese businessman Wang Wenliang, who also donated millions to the Clinton Foundation.

The report also said the federal government was looking into McAuliffe's role as a board member of the Clinton Global Initiative.

A small world often compels an undisciplined mind to go "umm..." A few more vague "ifs" and "possiblys" will certainly cement that bias beyond all hope of rational thought.

This was a fact brought out by yesterday's thread. Seems people here are gleeful at the attack on a Dem governor

from yesterday:

from CNN

Among the McAuliffe donations that drew the interest of the investigators was $120,000 from a Chinese businessman, Wang Wenliang, through his U.S. businesses. Wang was previously delegate to China's National People's Congress, the country's ceremonial ...

U.S. election law prohibits foreign nationals from donating to federal, state or local elections. Penalties for violations include fines and/or imprisonment.
But Wang holds U.S. permanent resident status, according to a spokeswoman, which would make him a U.S. person under election law and eligible to donate to McAuliffe's campaign.

yesterday. And when challenged, the response has been "how do you know that they're investigating him over this particular contribution?" Answer: Because the post itself says so. None so blind as those who won't even read the very post they're counting on to support their poutrage.

The Politico article in the OP links to a CNN article:
http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/23/politics/terry-mcauliffe-fbi-doj-federal-investigation-campaign-contributions/index.html

The investigation dates to at least last year and has focused, at least in part, on whether donations to his gubernatorial campaign violated the law, the officials said.

It doesn't say WHEN last year, but evidently the FBI has been looking into this for a while.

What is taking so long, if it's just some campaign contributions?
