House panel hearing lawmaker who wants IRS chief impeached
Source: AP
WASHINGTON (AP) IRS chief John Koskinen should be impeached for misleading lawmakers probing his agency's admitted mistreatment of conservative groups and allowing damaging evidence to be destroyed, a leading House Republican said Tuesday as he pressed his case before Congress.
"Providing false testimony before Congress comes with a consequence, at least it should. It's a crime," Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told the House Judiciary Committee.
In a written statement that Republicans blocked from being formally admitted as testimony, Koskinen who did not appear before the panel said the charges were unfounded.
He said his assurances to lawmakers that all emails congressional investigators were seeking had been preserved which turned out to be untrue were made before he knew data containing the emails had been destroyed.

would that the IRS would actually investigate the democracy-distorting joke of non-profit conservative groups, but this is the same agency that granted Scientology tax-exempt status as a religion.

(23,105 posts)I think this is a case of the Bush embeds striking again. Yeah, they investigated conservative groups, but they didn't go after them and some of them were breaking the law. The groups they "indicted" were all lefties, no rw groups had any negative findings.

(24,703 posts)This right wing hypocrite who's in lock step with Ayn Rand Ryan, has cut funding to this and other agencies within the government since he got this "new assignment"
But all he wants to do is grand stand and have a impeachment hearing for political points--------------what a hypocrite
Let really think about why and what this hypocrite is.
He and others in his party of hypocrites fellow "tin foil hats" have been cutting staff from this agency for years, right along with some law enforcement agency for many years, and now he has a bill to gut the BLM-----------------
This agency (IRS) has the right to collect money from hypocrite terrorists such as Bundy, but Chafftez, has held no hearings on this issue----------------not one, let me repeat this, not one hearing, but instead of having "We the People " stronger in the enforcement of dead beats he bypasses the issue entirely.
But again he wants to grand stand, for a political points
What is striking is that he proposed this Act to gut this agency and the BLM, to basically say that the state rights should enforce against terrorist such as Bundy and not the federal government and with his versions of right wing hypocrisy, and shift this oversight to the states, then the state either has to rise taxes to cover this cost or just let it be shuffled within the state, that money has to come from somewhere -------------------and states must meet and have a balanced budget every year
There is a reason that the IRS works in lock step with many federal and state agencies-------------or did Chaffetz forget this big item ----------------------lets not forget what he tried to do at the Flint hearings-------------all he does is grand stand just like Trey Gordy ------------------all the republicans want to do, is either not have people in charge of agencies, or they want to try and impeach them---------------------------
So Chaffetz has a problem with the ethos and pathos game he is playing with the public, he doesn't know which one to use
