Donald Trump Campaign Manager Defends Attack On Republican Latina Governor

Source: Huff Post

Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski doubled down on the candidate’s attack on New Mexico’s Susana Martinez, a fellow Republican and the nation’s only Latina governor.

“We absolutely stand by our statement that the state of New Mexico could be doing better,” Lewandowski told Fox News’ Chris Wallace on Sunday, reiterating his boss’s promises to fix the state’s economy by building a wall on the southern border with Mexico.

Earlier this week, Trump described New Mexico as a state with high unemployment and dependence on food stamps — and accused Martinez of bearing the responsibility. “Your governor has got to do a better job,” he said. “She’s not doing the job. Hey, maybe I’ll run for governor of New Mexico. I’ll get this place going.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R), who has been generally supportive of Trump’s campaign, called the comments “very, very, destructive” and said it “sent all the wrong signals.”

When asked by Wallace about the wisdom of Trump attacking Martinez, given his unpopularity among women and Latinos, Lewandowski insisted the candidate is polling well with both groups. “Donald Trump is winning with Latinos, if you look at the last poll, he’s winning with Hispanics, if you look at the polls, he’s doing very well with women,” the campaign manager said, prompting Wallace to interrupt him.

I do believe that this is good for our side. It is one thing to go after a judge, but it is another to go after a sitting governor..who just happens to be female. Trump will either walk back from this (not likely) or pay a price. There are many Latina women who might come out to vote, that otherwise wouldn't. Word of mouth about Trump's views is the most powerful advertising there is.

When Trump puts down huge minority groups, many within those group pass the word around. People get angry and want to stop the person putting them down. In this case, I hope they will vote against this dope.

Not coming together is much too dangerous, and I think and hope that Bernie and Hillary will do everything that can be done to make this happen.

As discussed in this thread, Donald Trump is not only relying on racism, but on gender resentment by men of successful women:

Susana Martinez is both a woman and a minority. It does not matter that ideologically she is not much different from Trump. The last thing that Trump wants to do is water down his brand as an advocate for men, because as he has claimed, "Men Today "Are Petrified To Speak To Women Anymore," "Women Get It Better Than We Do, Folks"

because he can't even pronounce his last name correctly. He say Lou-en-dow-ski. The correct Polish pronunciation is Lev-en-dow-ski. I learned this from my Mom, Grandma and growing up with the Lev-en-dow-ski's.

not by Latina women. She has been a horrible governor, giving tax breaks to corporations that support her while cutting services (sound familiar?). We are always last or next to last in every category among the 50 states. This is the one statement that Trump has made that is true, I just don't want to replace Martinez with Trump!
