Rolling Thunder Tribute to US Military Turns into a Trump Rally
Voice of America - ?3 hours ago?
The Rolling Thunder caravan of motorcycles rolled into Washington Sunday, to support the U.S. military on the country's Memorial Day weekend, but it turned into a political rally for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, real estate titan ...

That's enough. I just ate.
In the words of another hustler, who similarly showed up at the Rolling Thunder noisefest a few years back to advance her political cause, "suck it up, cupcake."

Trump: 600,000 people tried to attend my D.C. rally
Last Updated May 29, 2016 4:28 PM EDT
Donald Trump asserted that more than half a million people attempted to attend his speech to the Rolling Thunder bikers DC Sunday.
"We have the biggest rallies by far, far bigger than Bernie Sanders,'" he told a crowd in front of the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall. "Far bigger. I mean, look at today. They say you have 600,000 people here trying to get in."
"That's not gonna happen," he added. "But they say you have 600,000 people." ... A crowd count wasn't immediately available, but the space in front of the Lincoln Memorial was far from filled up.
Trump said he expected his speech would be reminiscent of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., referring to King's 1963 "I Have A Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, but that crowd restrictions kept it from being as big.
"I thought this would be like Dr. Martin Luther King where people were lined up from here all the way to the Washington Monument," he said. "But unfortunately they aren't allowed to come in."
Me, me, me. It's all about me.

WASHINGTON Donald J. Trump, the Manhattan real estate mogul who boasts about his wealth, maintains a fleet of aircraft and sells his own brand of neckties, paid respects on Sunday to an incongruous constituency. ... Look at all these bikers, Mr. Trump, standing before a crowd in front of the Lincoln Memorial, said with admiration. Do we love the bikers? Yes. We love the bikers.
....
The warm embrace from the crowd gave no hint of the controversy that Mr. Trump incited last year when he denigrated the military service of Senator John McCain of Arizona, a former prisoner of war in North Vietnam. Mr. Trump said Mr. McCain, a fellow Republican, was not a war hero, saying, I like people that werent captured, O.K.?
Mr. Trump is the latest political figure, but not the only one, to pay attention to bikers. Wearing a black Harley-Davidson helmet, Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, appeared at Rolling Thunder in 2011, months before saying she would not run for president in 2012.
And one of Mr. Trumps former Republican rivals, Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, a proud Harley-Davidson owner, campaigned at Harley dealerships and wore motorcycle boots on the campaign trail. Asked during a debate what he wanted his Secret Service code name to be, he suggested Harley.

(18,470 posts)This leaves a sour taste in my mouth about the Memorial Day. It's being turned from a day to honor Americans who served and who died for their country into a way to politically attack others.

(880 posts)Not sure what to believe. I recall hearing this guy on the Stern show around the time of the Iraq war and shortly after always saying what a bad idea it was and how we never should have gone in. So I'm confused as to whether he would be an interventionist or not. These are conversations I recall him having with Howard as I was a daily listener at the time.

and I strongly disagree with the association of patriotism with the republican party.
Twice recently I have said patriotic things to people who don't know me and they asked me if I support Trump. I'm like I support America and our veterans and I support Bernie Sanders. They look puzzled for some reason.

I laughed when I saw them in the movie, " Bad Grandpa, " and they are even more stupid when encountered in real life. One dude tried to bullshit me about being in my company ( 7th Surgical MASH ) until he couldn't remember the name a single person in the unit, including the First Shirt..

Donald Trump looked like a fool and a fraud on Sunday. But what else is new?
Even the most ardent Trumpistas would have to admit that Trumps appearance at the annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally was, as spectacles go, pretty pathetic. It was supposed to be a vast, multitudinous gathering on the plaza in front of the Lincoln Memorial, one of the greatest and most historic public spaces in the nation. Instead, Trump drew a paltry crowd estimated by organizers at perhaps 5,000. ... As Trump might say in a late-night tweet: Sad!
The presumptive Republican nominee cut a ridiculous figure, sporting a red Make America Great Again baseball cap to guard against rogue breezes that might unhinge his comb-over. He lamented the attendance: I thought this would be like Dr. Martin Luther King, where the people would be lined up from here all the way to the Washington Monument, right?
Wrong. So very, very wrong. ... He claimed that the anticipated throng was out there, but unfortunately, they dont allow em to come in. That was a lie; there were no hordes outside the security perimeter, pleading for admittance. Since everyone present could easily discern the truth, Trump must have been lying to himself perhaps to ease the sting of what can only be seen as an awful week for his campaign.
