Trump’s relationship with RNC sours
Source: Politico
Donald Trump is relying heavily on the Republican Party to bolster his skeletal operation, but his campaigns relationship with the Republican National Committee is increasingly plagued by distrust, power struggles and strategic differences, according to sources in both camps.
In recent days, RNC chairman Reince Priebus has privately grumbled that his advice doesnt seem welcome with Trump, according to one RNC insider. Other party officials have expressed frustration that Trumps campaign is trying to take too much control over a pair of fundraising committees with the party while adding little to the effort, according to campaign and party officials familiar with the relationship.
While Trump had promised Priebus that he would call two dozen top GOP donors, when RNC chief of staff Katie Walsh recently presented Trump with a list of more than 20 donors, he called only three before stopping, according to two sources familiar with the situation. Its unclear whether he resumed the donor calls later.
Meanwhile, theres deep skepticism on Trumps campaign about the RNCs commitment to the presumptive GOP nominee, with some campaign officials questioning how hard the RNC is working to help Trump and to raise money for his campaigns joint committees with the party.

(53,235 posts)Why did he keep refusing the speakership and finally relent? Cuz they promised him a general election candidacy without the mess of a primary.
Just guessing. Could be JEB, too. Everyone hates him, but it seems candidates that people hate don't matter in this election.

(11,993 posts)It could create a firestorm, so it would take extraordinary circumstances to bring it about, but it's not against the rules.

(2,657 posts)but he has the requisite number (1,237) to secure the nomination COMMITTED BY VIRTUE OF THE PRIMARY RESULTS to him in the first round.
thesquanderer
(11,993 posts)...but unlike a theoretical second ballot, it would take extraordinary circumstances for them to not vote as pledged on the first ballot.
63splitwindow
(2,657 posts)of the one they are committed to that makes sense. Are you aware of how "extraordinary circumstances" are defined in this context?

(11,993 posts)and although it's a terrible source, just to see another perspective, you can also see https://www.facebook.com/notes/the-conservative-minuteman/delegates-may-not-have-to-vote-for-trump-on-the-first-ballot/1689505051274319/

(6,938 posts)A Trump riot at the Republican convention. I would buy a big screen TV for that.

(51 posts)And that's the Rules Committee at the RNC. During the Convention, the Rules Committee meets and decides what the Convention rules are for nominations. For instance, they can make a rule that allows for pledged delegates to move to other candidates on the first ballot.

Which is why there is no chance.he would take the nomination this year, he would.have almost no.chance to win and.will be associated with the whole.cluster.ruck.
He will sit on the sidelines and not get tainted by the trainwreck, and be.the.wholly unified party candidate in 2020.

Trump.didnt happen, be IS the Republican party.

(3,072 posts)...they need to kick this dangerous psycho to the curb, NOW! I don't care if there is a 99.9% chance that he will lose. The 0.1% chance that he will win is far too risky. For the good of all of, the RNC needs to step in and boot Trump to the curb.
TomCADem
(17,390 posts)Look at how folks view superdelegates on our side. If both Hillary and Bernie were kicked to the curb, how do you think many Democrats would react?

(7,643 posts)The oligarchy has achieved political access and influence beyond their wildest dreams. If their greed does not exceed their judgment, they should be content with the status quo. They can live with an obstructionist House to do their bidding for now and restructure the Republican Party to better serve their desires at their leisure.

All of us can imagine that Trump and his team are and will be really hard to work with.
They believe that they have reinvented the wheel.
In truth, they just got lucky because of the huge number of potential nominees, and because of Trump's brazenness in taking full advantage of media attention, when in truth, he had nothing of substance to say.

If the RNC does kick Trump out, they will certainly bankroll their convention choice to the hilt.

Now, I'm not so sure. I don't think he has the discipline required to execute a real campaign. Or to tactically shut his mouth.
