Trump Co-Chair: Support The Nominee Or ‘Shut The Hell Up’
Source: Talking Points Memo
Donald Trumps campaign team is apparently fed up with Republicans publicly expressing reservations about their presumptive nominee.
"Either they want to get behind the presumptive nominee who will be the nominee of this party and make sure that we do everything we can to win in November or we're just asking them if they can't do that, then just shut the hell up," Trump campaign co-chair Sam Clovis said Thursday on CNNs New Day. "That's what we're asking them to do."
Trump earned fresh rebukes from Republicans on Capitol Hill for his recent attacks on the Mexican heritage of a federal judge and for his renewed fixation on banning Muslim immigrants from the United States. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) called Trumps comments about the judge the textbook definition of racism, while Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) worried aloud that Trump could be the partys next Barry Goldwater.
The negative comments about Trump have sounded in statehouses, too. This week alone, Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) said they couldnt stomach voting for the New York businessman.

(90,829 posts)I keep asking, since they're making plans like mad to protest the Democratic Convention. So far no one has answered me.

(2,983 posts)That's how they're going to unify the party and it's supporters? This goes well beyond stupid. Are they trying to deliberately sabotage their own campaign? Among the other things the Republicans are... they are, generally speaking, very proud. They are not going to react well to being told to shut the hell up. On the contrary - that's going to make this uglier and perhaps convince more moderates to jump ship and either refuse to support Trump, or choose someone else.
Normally I'd be thrilled to see the Republican nominee for President with a desperately failing campaign... but something smells fishy here. What are they really up to? If this isn't somehow part of some strategy, it's one of the dumbest political moves I have ever seen in my life. It is breathtakingly, astoundingly, amazingly stupid.
On the other hand, I do agree, to an extent... with the sentiment expressed here. Indeed, Republicans should shut the hell up.

(23,158 posts)If he wasn't such an egregious asshole, the Repugs wouldn't have to disavow him. Quit saying unconstitutional things, quit with the racism and misogyny and your party will quit having the vapors. After all, Repugs are definitely racist and only want to control women, so they sympathize with the Donald in their hearts. They just don't want the world to know, so they just have to act like this is repugnant.
