RNC Organizers Apologize To Adelson After Asking For $6M To Cover Shortfall

Source: Talking Points Memo

Organizers for the Republican National Convention reportedly apologized to prominent conservative donor Sheldon and Miriam Adelson after they were asked to fill a wide budget gap for the event, Politico reported.

Organizers sent the Adelsons a letter that begged him for $6 million after, they claimed, companies backed out $8.1 million in sponsorships. But, four of the five organizers who signed the letter didn't see it before it was sent.

A spokeswoman for the RNC organizers told Politico that the list of companies named in the letter, which included Coca-Cola and Pepsi among others, was inaccurate and that the organizers had contacted Adelsons' aides to apologize.

“Some of what were referred to as pledges were actually expectations based on pledges made to previous conventions, while a handful had been withdrawn,” David Gilbert, the CEO of the host committee, said in a prepared statement obtained by Politico.

3. I'm confused. They sent him an *open letter* asking for six million dollars?

No one involved knows someone who knows him well enough to ask personally? One organizer sent a letter, signed the names of four other people, and then told Politico about it? Or did Adelson's staff tell Politico?

Someone's intent was to make the GOP look bad!

For real people (notwithstanding 'corporations are people too') bankruptcy is a last resort. For businessmen like tRump bankruptcy is a business strategy.

They have a huge shortfall for the convention, so they lied about companies that promised funds, then backed out, when in reality, they did not pledge anything?

And now they have to apologize for misleading Adelson about the reason for their shortfall?
