(34,136 posts)If all they do is put the two letter abbreviation for the state, that takes three or four whole spaces - the comma (optional) a space and the two letters. How hard would that be?
Nearby we have towns named Geneva, Havana, Cairo - unless the news puts Geneva, Florida (or FL); Havana, Florida; and Cairo, Georgia it's easy to assume that the stories are from some foreign country!
Then there are Greenville and Greensboro - there are towns of those two names in many, many states. True story - back when zip codes were brand new, my sister sent a letter to our aunt who lived in Greensboro, Alabama. Thinking the zip code was sufficient she omitted the state. Weeks later she got the letter back as undeliverable. It had been to over a dozen Greensboros and a couple of Greensboroughs but never made it to Alabama. I've seen stories about Greensboro without the state and there was no way to figure out which one the story was about.
