Quito (Pichincha).- El Canciller Ricardo Patiño informó que todavía no se toma una decisión para aceptar el asilo de Julián Assange, fundador de Wikileaks. El anuncio lo hizo luego de la reunión que sostuvo el Presidente Rafael Correa, con sus secretarios y la embajadora de Ecuador en Inglaterra, Ana Albán, quien prefirió no hablar con la prensa sobre el tema.

Hay un grupo de abogados que analiza el caso de Julian Assange para advertir las implicaciones políticas y jurídicas para el Ecuador en caso de aceptar el asilo, dijo el Canciller antes de manifestar que los tiempos en estos temas no son perentorios. “Hay personas que han quedado aislados en embajadas un día, tres semanas o cinco años. Todo eso puede pasar”, señaló.

En otra parte de sus declaraciones, Ricardo Patiño aseguró que se pueden tener conversaciones con diplomáticos británicos pero la decisión que se tome será una determinación soberana del Ecuador. Además, el funcionario dijo que no se ha tenido conversaciones con Julian Assange ni con diplomáticos de EE.UU ...

Quito (Pichincha). - Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño said no decision has been made to offer asylum to Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks. The announcement was made after a meeting President Rafael Correa held with his secretaries and Ambassador of Ecuador in England, Ana Alban, who preferred not to talk to the press on the subject.

A group of lawyers who discussed the case of Julian Assange warned of the political and legal implications should Ecuador offer asylum asylum, but the Chancellor asserted these issues are not mandatory. "People have been isolated in embassies one day, three weeks or five years. All this could happen," he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ricardo Patiño said that one can hold discussions with British diplomats but the final decision will made by the sovereign state of Ecuador. The official also said there have been no talks with Julian Assange or U.S. diplomats ...
