IS group claims Germany axe attacker as 'fighter'
Source: AFP
Beirut (AFP) - The Islamic State group said on Tuesday that an Afghan refugee who carried out an axe and knife attack in Germany was one of its "fighters," an IS-linked news agency said.
"The perpetrator of the stabbing attack in Germany was one of the fighters of the Islamic State," the Amaq news agency said, citing a "security source."
"He carried out this operation responding to calls to target countries of the coalition fighting IS," it added, referring to the US-led coalition targeting the jihadist group in Syria and Iraq.
The attack on a train near the southern city of Wuerzberg appeared to be the first time IS has claimed an attack in Germany.

A hand-painted flag of so-called Islamic State has been found in the room of an Afghan refugee accused of carrying out an axe and knife attack on a southern German train, officials say.
The 17-year-old injured four people from Hong Kong, two critically, in the attack in Wuerzburg on Monday evening. He was shot dead by police as he fled.
He had shouted Allahu akbar" ("God is great" , a witness said.
The IS-linked Amaq news agency said the teenager was an IS "fighter".

Or brain scrambled by aliens.
Or teased at school.
Or, the obvious and most simple which is he is a jihadi who slipped in among other refugees just like ISIS said they would.
Denial of this crisis makes democratic people look weak, stupid, and out of touch with reality. (For clarity, the preceding statement is not directed at you. It's a statement regarding the general tendency to ignore the fault of radical Islamic movement until all other causes are eliminated.)

(21,317 posts)In that sense, he was inspired by them. But, that doesn't mean he was a plant or an agent. I think he was just a confused, alienated young person caught up tragically in geopolitical events, who lashed out in anger, and was then claimed by one of the sides in the conflict as an ally.
This doesn't excuse what he did, but it isn't really a surprise. Our involvement in the middle east and Afghanistan has been an all-around disaster, for us and for them. And our decision makers can't seem to give it up, no matter whom we elect. It's like some weird addiction. Sometimes you just have to disengage.

Confused and alienated young males (generally) are the target recruiting group for these assholes. Indeed, any kind of assholes. Hence why the Nation of Islam and the Aryan Nation do so well in prisons.
They look for guys with some sort of issue --- any issue --- mental problems, poor, out-of-work, alienated, bad divorce, bad parents, doesn't-fit-in, unhappy closeted gay, felon, drugs, whatever. The list of problems is as varied and long as the list of people in the world.
I was military police during WWII. As a native German speaker (albeit Jewish), I was tasked with dealing with and interviewing Nazi prisoners.
Almost without fail, the SS -- the core Nazis who ran death camps for my people -- were confused, alienated, young men, looking for something bigger than themselves of which to be a part. Generally, it was guys who didn't fit in and didn't have a lot of prospects, who were promised great things and a sense of belonging by the Nazis.
But there are lots of confused, alienated, young men -- indeed, most --- who don't go on the join the radical of the radical.
Having issues (of whatever kind) is not an excuse.

(21,317 posts)The transition to adulthood is a difficult time. People become fodder for gangs, cults, terrorists, etc.. It is also the time of life that our military forces like to recruit, to provide the troops used to disrupt other countries. So, the cycle goes on.

(24,692 posts)will not do the same with refugees. Let's leave that for the European far-right (who along with Trump and his "refugee-phobia" are happy to do it).

8 year old attacked and stabbed...
A mother and her three daughters have been stabbed in France for apparently being too 'scantily dressed'.
An eight-year-old girl is said to be fighting for her life after suffering a punctured lung in the knife attack in the Hautes-Alpes region.
