Islamic State said to shun withdrawal offer in surrounded Syrian city

Source: Reuters

Islamic State appeared to have shunned an offer for its fighters to withdraw safely from the Syrian city of Manbij and clashes with U.S.-backed forces raged ahead of its expiry, a spokesman for Washington-backed forces said on Saturday.

The Syria Democratic Forces alliance, made up of Arab and Kurdish fighters and backed by the United States, made rapid advances against the jihadists last month after launching a campaign to flush them out of territory along the Turkish border, through which they had for years moved weapons and fighters.

The SDF quickly surrounded Manbij, but the fight to take the city has been tougher, with slow advances inside it in recent weeks.

On Thursday the SDF-allied Manbij Military Council said Islamic State militants would be allowed to leave the city with light weapons, without a fight, if their departure took place within 48 hours.

This is a city that ISIS took over. In essence, they have the inhabitants as hostages. Note that even if they took the offer, they might still booby trap the area and leave behind people who would become suicide bombers.

Just understand that the civilian toll will be very high. Raqqa will be much much worse.

Now imagine they have a military and airforce, and attack and occupy our lands with impunity. They have become so powerful they can just do what they want and no one can stop them. They claim benevolence but force social regulations on us we find abhorrent, caused mass employment, and continually murder anyone they think is a threat or just on accident, because fuck us.

I can only assume you would act with moderate rebellion.

And if we subject millions of people to it, don't expect good results.

We can't kill our way out of the terrorist problem.

Besides ISIS started in Syria , and we were not warring and occupying in Syria. ISIS is scum and no quarter should be given.

And they want us to attack them. That's why they are committing atrocities.

Until we go after the people buying their oil and funding them, and stop destabilizing nations like Syria, we are not going to out kill them.

Obama might have helped put a stop to that by supporting the coup.

Anyway I have no problem if we indulged them their death wish.
