Rifle maker wants documents sealed in school shooting suit

Updated 4:40 pm, Thursday, July 28, 2016

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut judge has asked lawyers for Remington Arms and families of some Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre victims to meet privately to resolve disagreements over whether some company documents sought by the families should be sealed from public view.

The families of nine victims killed and a teacher who survived the 2012 shooting in Newtown are suing Remington Arms, saying the Madison, North Carolina, company should not have sold the AR-15-style rifle used in the shooting to the general public because it's too dangerous. Twenty first-graders and six educators were killed.

A state judge in Bridgeport held a hearing on the records issue Thursday.

Remington wants many company records requested by the families' lawyers sealed from public view, saying disclosing them would hurt the company financially and benefit competitors.

Marketing materials. How was the weapon sold to the public? Was it marketed for self defense, for sport shooting or foe hunting? Or was it marketed as a rapid fire killing machine?

This is the information the manufacturer wants to be suppressed.

And who needs a "mission adaptable" rifle outside a war zone? People who buy this crud should be put on a terrorist watch list, until they can be banned from owning a gun. Good find on the ad above.

I can't wait to put on my cammo and open carry that impressive looking rod into a McDonalds.

Maybe I can put a little blackener on my face so it looks like I have a manly stubble.

Chicks love that! Everybody will be looking at me and saying "God, I wish I was THAT guy"!

6. Corporate marketing should NOT trump the lives of those children and teachers.

Pun was not intended. It sounds like a lot of bull scantilla to me. To me there is no reason to be selling a killing machine to anyone (military exception). Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for anyone is greater than the corporate need to protect their marketing. May the sun shine on the judge and the documents wanted to be sealed. I've not posted for a while, but this one got to me.
