WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Vice President Joe Biden on Monday officiated his first wedding ever, for two longtime White House staffers.
His office said the vice president obtained a temporary certification from the District of Columbia to preside over the wedding ceremony, which was attended only by the grooms' families. It took place in the living room of his home at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington.
The newlyweds are Brian Mosteller, director of Oval Office operations for President Barack Obama, and Joe Mahshie, a trip coordinator for first lady Michelle Obama.

You don't have to be married by a preacher or a judge. California allows just about any adult to get a temporary commission to officiate a wedding. You just pay the county clerk $75 and attend a 1 hour training. That's what I did when my friends asked me to marry them. Sounds like DC has the same thing.

(54,068 posts)They got married at a cabin in the woods and included their beautiful 9 month old daughter in the vows. And it rained. But it was an amazing experience. This is in Texas, so I expect most states now allow for anybody the couple likes to officiate. Texas required no training at all, but I tried to make the ceremony as much of a humdinger as I could.
