Police union's 'Black Labs Matter' dog photo is called insulting to Black Lives Matter cause

Source: Daily Mail

A San Francisco police officers' union has published a photo of two dogs in its monthly newspaper that critics say belittles the Black Lives Matter movement.

The photo has also raised questions about if the force is serious about repairing its relationship with people of color in the community.

The photo shows a pair of Labrador retrievers. One is a black Lab the other is yellow Lab.

Around the black Lab's neck is a sign that says 'Black Labs Matter' and around the yellow Lab's neck is a sign that says 'All Labs Matter'.

FULL story at link.

But it's worse in this particular context considering that SFPD has had multiple scandals related to large groups of officers circulating racist texts and emails.

If someone thought Al Sharpton or Joe Madison was "inflaming racial strife", should they be fired also. Be careful what you ask for.

If I posted this picture on my facebook, with my employer being listed under, well, employers, at BEST I might get written up, but most likely they would let me go, assuming it caught their attention.

It's a diverse workforce, and if I display insensitivity and racism in my social life, that can create a lot of tension at work that they wouldn't want to deal with. My manager is a Colombian immigrant, her boss is a gay man, my QE supervisor is black, etc. You think posting something like this wouldn't matter to them?

The least I would want from the police is being held to the same standard I would be held at by my employer. Hell, being police, they should be held to a much higher standard, but it seems the opposite is what actually occurs.

Are you really advocating that a government employer fire employees for private speech printed in a protected union communication?

Its bullshit that they are held to such a low standard compared to the general populace.

... with minorities in a fair and unbiased manner then, yes, firing should be on the table.

The person who made that is a now a liability to the city. A bag of money or an aquittal floating around waiting for the next attorney to snatch it, maybe rightfully so, and use it in a civil or criminal trial.
