Police union: Clinton snubbed us

Source: The Hill

August 06, 2016, 06:00 am

Top officials at the biggest police union in the country are upset with Hillary Clinton, saying she snubbed them. The leader of the National Fraternal Order of Police told The Hill that the Democrat sent a signal through her staff that she wouldn’t be seeking the union’s endorsement.

"It sends a powerful message. To be honest with you, I was disappointed and shocked," said Chuck Canterbury, the president of the National Fraternal Order of Police. "You would think with law enforcement issues so much in the news that even if she had disagreements with our positions, that she would’ve been willing to say that."

Clinton’s opponent, Donald Trump, is now actively seeking the union’s support as he trumpets a “law and order” message on the campaign tail.

Canterbury spoke to The Hill in a telephone interview Friday, shortly after he left Trump Tower in Manhattan.

The Ironworker union protects Ironworker from his boss (owners of the company, and upper management). The Union is usually disliked by management, are derided as unnecessary , crooked, ect.
The Police Union protects the cop from his boss (taxpaying citizens). The Union is disliked by some taxpayers, and are derided and unnecessary, crooked, ect.
It all just depends on who is paying the bills.

They contract with boiler rooms and independent sales forces to sale advertisement and or whatever. Most of the money is spent on overhead and they get a cut. Of course this is a common deal for unions, also. I knew a couple of guys who printed a union directory. They sold ads out of a boiler room. They used to actually print them every year, send some copies to the union halls to keep it legal, the rest they just threw in the dumpster every year. Before than they just rented an office a tiny office in a labor hall so they could say your ad was in the hall. They didn't tell anybody that it was a small one on the wall of a rarely used office. I'm sure the leaders get a kickback under the table and the members get diddly.

But they protect and defend ANY behavior. An organization that has such low standards is not deserving of the classification of union.

encouraging neighborhood policing in the sense that police get to know the people in their towns and work with the community to break down attitudes both sides have of each other. Police have an Us vs. Them outlook and the community as a whole are afraid of them. She could have dressed them down but good for the epidemic in unnecessary and illegal police violence on the communities they are to serve. She could use that opportunity to push for independent prosecutors in cases of alleged police misconduct.

She wasn't going to get their support anyway, most cops are Republicans just like the military, but it would have been great to see her with a plan to reduce all of the unjustified police shootings, beatings, and arrests.

. . .that in future visits, she will talk to gatherings of police officers in different cities, just not to the head honchos of the NFOP, or whatever they call themselves these days.

Fuck him if he feels dissed. I doubt she has time for his kind right now.

Note: I'm not referring to rank-and-file police union members as the problem, but with too many of their heads.

These national fraternal orders of police or firemen are lobbying organizations more than unions, although some of the local lodges may also function as unions.

In NY the unions are the UFA and the PBA.
