FBI Chief Calls for National Talk Over Encryption vs. Safety

Source: THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SAN FRANCISCO — The FBI's director says the agency is collecting data that he will present next year in hopes of sparking a national conversation about law enforcement's increasing inability to access encrypted electronic devices.

Speaking on Friday at the American Bar Association conference in San Francisco, James Comey says the agency was unable to access 650 of 5,000 electronic devices investigators attempted to search over the last 10 months.

Comey says encryption technology makes it impossible in a growing number of cases to search electronic devices. He says it's up to U.S. citizens to decide whether to modify the technology.

The FBI earlier this year engaged in a high-profile fight with Apple to access data from a locked iPhone used by a shooter in the San Bernardino, California, terrorist attack.

Encryption has stopped hackers and cost the security business millions because they are not selling security protection because its not needed. The FBI needs to get warrants like everyone else nothing has changed except people in the security business cant make millions by imbedding viruses to malware if the FBI gets easy excess to our phones they will be subject to hacking by everyone.

... not saying there is anything more controversial on my iPhone than perhaps some Bill the Cat cartoons.

Or a Hunter S. Thompson for Sheriff background image.

Anyway, it is as it should be. If you want to look and see what Bill the Cat cartoons I have in my image folder, get a court order.

... not getting a court order. The problem is that the court order can't be executed due to the encryption. With a back door your bill a the cat cartoons will be safe up until a court order is obtained.

.... full up end to end encryption there are security problems. That's life. Having a backdoor for lawful search and seizure is more important than protecting your bill the cat cartoons under every possible senerio.
