Kansas exporting its college graduates to other states
Source: Lawrence Journal-World
From 2010 to 2014, Flanders said, the percentage of Kansas college graduates who are employed in Kansas within one year of completion has remained relatively flat, while the number who remain employed here five years after graduation has been declining.
And that is true for all types of post-secondary graduates, whether they earn certificates at a technical college, an associate's degree at a community college, or a four-year bachelor's degree from one of the six Regents universities.
But those earning bachelor's and graduate degrees are the most likely to leave the state, Flanders said.
In 2014, fewer than half (47 percent) of the people who'd earned bachelor's degrees five years earlier were still employed in Kansas, Flanders said. That was down from 52 percent four years earlier.

(17,863 posts)the table from the article attached. The chart on that article shows that Kansas is pretty typical for a midwestern state.

(3,425 posts)According to the chart, California and Utah are at the top. The difference may be that a five year follow gave the results in Kansas
and this statistic should have been used as a comparison factor for the rest of the states. Many people from all over the world come to California schools for an education, so that would account for why they are to of the list.

Proud Jayhawk (KU grad).
Left less than 3 years later for Colorado...
Left Colorado for California (by way of the Virgin Islands for a year).
Happily living in California for the last 25 years.
I could not imagine living in Kansas again.

(5,754 posts)The place is full of the few things Kansas folks like. Maybe LaMar's donuts. I lived in Kansas for 29 years, now back to the south in a state that will be purple very soon. I have to go back to Kansas this month to do a little teaching. Yes, I have to teach in a classroom that allows students to carry guns. Yes, this is the medical school.
