Ayotte: I will stand up to Trump but will vote for him
Source: CNN
Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN)Sen. Kelly Ayotte has often found herself in a familiar spot with Donald Trump: Keeping her distance.
But in this fiercely independent state, Ayotte is gambling that voters might reward her for rebuking her own party's nominee. She has criticized Trump and will not endorse him -- yet still plans to vote for the billionaire in November
"I will take on my own party," Ayotte told CNN in Nashua Monday. "I really believe that this is a big issue in this race -- that I am the one candidate that will stand up to whomever is in the White House to do good things when we can work together -- also when it's wrong to stand up to them."
Ayotte is one of more than a half dozen Republican senators whose fate this fall is critical to saving the GOP's beleaguered Senate majority. And with Trump's standing now eroding rapidly in battleground states, Republican senators need to convince Hillary Clinton voters to split their ticket, warning of the perils of one-party rule in Washington.

She's probably afraid that some of the people who decide not to vote for him won't come vote at all, but she's supposed to be a LEADER and this is contemptible.

President-hardly. Never should have even gotten this far.

(58,785 posts)You do not expect people with cluster B personality disorders to behave responsibly. That's why they're called disorders.
But he is funny! If you love seeing sword after sword shoved into a trembling and bleeding GOP that can't get away. He almost cannot open his mouth without creating a scandal, his thinking is so weird and his astonishing ignorance in itself a profound dysfunction.
No wonder he thinks "the generals" are incompetent. They're too stupid to even loot presidential palaces for "spoils."
No comment on those who see this as strong leadership. That's where the real "sickening" comes in for me.

(58,785 posts)of course, 95% predicated on how terribly bad it would be for the nation if Democrats got power though--far worse! Nothing to do with personal power for the leadership and the rest liking their jobs way too much.
Can't change the minds of the hard core, but hopefully otherwise-competent conservatives are finally ready to stop digging.

(26,268 posts)Hillary Clinton is up by 9 points in New Hampshire. Ayotte would be better served by concentrating on her own race and trying to prove Trump wrong in his assessment of her, rather than confirming it.

(50,950 posts)How does that work? She won't endorse or campaign for Trump. But she will still vote for him.
Let's use that when it comes time for legislation in Congress. She won't back legislation that Trump wants passed. But she will still vote for the bill and be standing next to him when Trump signs it.

(6,496 posts)even though she didn't use the word endorsement. She is publicly showing the she supports Trump over all other candidates running by saying she will vote for him and that is an endorsement. I would be shocked if she wins in November now. I think NH is better than her.

(47,501 posts)she's damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. There is no right answer, though keeping a low profile and your mouth shut would be good. Obviously she can't do that, as she is up for re-election. Sucks to be you Kelly! If you lose, who will McCain and Graham use for their token female senator? Well, not sure McCain will survive this either though.

(14,591 posts)I live in a conservative part of NH and they don't like Drumpf. They don't see him as a true conservative and don't like what's coming from his mouth.
And her tepid support of Drumpf is hurting her with people who supported her in the past. People I know who supported Ayotte in the past now say they plan on voting for Hassan.

As a NH voter I have watched Ayotte support many dumb ass causes for the Tea Party. This one is a doozy. I had a small amount of respect for her until now.
