Drew Pinskys six-year-old HLN show, Dr. Drew On Call, has been canceled by CNN, effective Sept. 22.
.....................
But the decision came eight days after Pinskys comments on a radio show on Aug. 17 questioning the health and medical care of former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president. After looking at bits and pieces of Clintons health-care records she made public in 2015, he said he was gravely concerned not just about her health, but her health care.
His comments came as the campaign of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, along with its surrogates and supporters, including former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and Fox News host Sean Hannity, have attempted to portray Clinton as lacking the mental and physical stamina demanded by the job, as Trump has put it.
The episode has been removed from the stations website, but a transcript was published by the conservative Washington Free Beacon:.................

(58,785 posts)the station's and CNN's ethical standards on his own show another time. This time he thought he could slide these incredibly sleazy insinuations through on a radio show--NO medical details, just insinuations. It takes planning to say what he did.
As for a lawsuit, he has NO case. Read the transcript. Even the radio station has removed this episode from the web.
And frankly, I strongly doubt any involvement by Hillary's camp was necessary at all. Not everything is about political advantage and disadvantage. This was extremely unethical behavior, medically for a physician and editorially for the host of a program. Now the consequences are following their proper course.

(6,917 posts)When he makes loose diagnoses like that from hearsay evidence about Hillary or ANY patient it is a clear ethical, if not privacy-related criminal act if he was looking at confidential medical records.
If he WASN'T looking at confidential medical records, then he is talking out of his ass in the media and mixing politics with his medical advice.

So when he finally does break this rule of ethics, he does it for a presidential nominee? It's nuts. What was he thinking??

(14,591 posts)HLN has been going through lineup changes for the past several months and this was most likely in the works long before then.
He had a radio show that was cancelled earlier this year so his popularity was on the decline.
"CNN Money, in its reporting of the announcement, connected it to a broader shakeup at HLN, including the end of Nancy Graces flamboyant show devoted to criminal court cases."

(10,778 posts)He apologized after the broadcast. Earlier tonight, I mistakenly raised an anonymously sourced report about Hillary Clintons health. By doing so, I violated HLN and CNNs editorial standards and I was wrong to have mentioned the unsubstantiated report. I regret the error and will make sure, in the future, to apply the rigorous editorial standards we have in place here. I apologize to our viewers and Secretary Clinton for falling short tonight.
and then he does it again 8 months later...

But as to your first point:
After looking at bits and pieces of Clintons health-care records she made public in 2015, he said he was gravely concerned not just about her health, but her health care.
It was Pinksys second foray into the subject of Hillary Clintons health, and the first one ended badly, as well. In January, he made reference on-air to Clintons late return to the stage in a debate and cited a Breitbart News story, attributed to a strong source, suggesting that it was due to a flare-up of problems from a brain injury. In fact, she had only visited the restroom.

As for his concern about Clinton's healthcare, he swallowed Big Pharma's koolaid about Synthroid being the only option to treat hypothyroidism. Hillary's records showed that she takes Armour Thyroid, a natural medication made from the thyroid gland of pigs. Most hypothyroid patients still have symptoms on Synthroid and find they respond better to Armour. That's IF they can find an openminded doctor who will prescribe it.

TexasBushwhacker
(20,187 posts)There is a slightly higher risk of osteoporosis if you take Armour, but they seem to discount the risks of hypothyroidism if it isn't properly medicated, including high cholesterol. But some doctors would rather prescribe Symthroid and Crestor, even though statins have their own side effects.

(5,611 posts)who had the misfortune to appear on his celebrity rehab garbage reality shows. I remember there were a lot of accusations about poor medical practice, including shabby treatments of people who had very serious medical issues like Jeff Conaway.
I remember Dr. Drew from years ago when he started as a "love advice" doctor. His ridiculous, shameless self-promotion over the years, constantly making pronouncements about how celebrities weren't being treated properly (when of course he had never done a proper evaluation of these people) when it was obvious that he was angling for fame was disgusting.
I am very happy to hear this, and I sincerely hope he drops off the face of the earth. Nobody should EVER give this charlatan a soapbox to stand on.
For some reason I can't link to a cbs article about Dr. Drew quitting his rehab show because of the controversy around it but here is a quote:
"In a recent radio interview, Pinsky said that he has no plans to air another season of VH1's "Celebrity Rehab" because he's "tired of taking all the heat" following the deaths of five former cast members.
"It's very stressful and very intense for me," Pinsky said in an on-air interview with "Zach Sang and the Gang." "To have people questioning my motives and taking aim at me because people get sick and die because they have a life-threatening disease, and I take the blame? Rodney King has a heart attack and I take blame for that?" (CBS May 3, 2013)
Seriously, what a PIG! Five people died, and he is complaining about the stress he endured.
