Poll: Clinton still leads Trump nationally, but gap is narrowing
Source: MSN/USA Today
Hillary Clinton is still 7 points ahead of Donald Trump nationally, according to a new Monmouth University Poll, but her lead has decreased from earlier this month.
The poll out Monday found the Democratic nominee led Trump 46%-39% among likely U.S. voters. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson had the support of 7% of those surveyed, and 2% backed Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
With registered voters, Clinton had 43% support, Trump had 36%, Johnson came in with 8% and Stein had 2%.

The new poll was taken Aug. 25-28 and follows a series of reports related to the overlap between the Clinton Foundation and the State Department while Clinton was secretary of State.

The AP's hatchet job on Hillary Clinton as well as the MSM efforts to normalize Trump by praising his outreach and giving him a free pass on his prior racist statements appears to be working. Heck, this morning, we had a columnist on NPR saying that he did not really believe Trump was a "hard core racist" without anyone bringing up either the housing discrimination or Trump's remarks about the Mexican American judge.

(27,315 posts)Hillary Clinton is 7 points ahead. In this country, this is a HUGE gap and this race is for Clinton to be lost at this point. So the hand wringing is not necessary. If anything, it seems the AP hatchet job is failing, as Hillary Clinton has been around + 6 % in average.
But the media need to claim the race is closing to maintain interest. While we cannot be complacent, we do not need to accept their meme.

(12,821 posts)Too many Republicans won't recognize it or acknowledge it, and they'll still want to vote AGAINST Hillary.
It's like President Obama said: we need to "run scared" all the way through the election in order to ensure success -- and to ensure the biggest possible landslide in her favor.

(7,968 posts)as if the issues each campaign has are somehow equal. Really scary shit and especially since a large number of Americans can't tell the difference. I guess that is where we come it.

While the media continues to perpetuate the myth that the race between the two candidates is a nail-biter, the polling continues to show a steady Clinton advantage.
Hillary Clinton Leads Donald Trump By Seven Points In New National Poll
According to a new Monmouth University poll released on Monday, Hillary Clinton has a solid seven-point lead over Donald Trump in a head-to-head matchup, 49-42. This despite Trumps recent strategy of desperately latching onto conspiracy theories about the Democratic nominees health, the work of the Clinton Foundation, and even Clintons intelligence.
Clintons margin remains the same with third-party candidates Gary Johnson and Jill Stein included.
While the media continues to perpetuate the myth that the race between the two candidates is a nail-biter, the polling continues to show a steady Clinton advantage.
She now leads Trump by an average of 7 percentage points, according to HuffPost Pollster.

(4,787 posts)That's based on 100 state polls. 341 is 63% of the Electoral Votes, which unlike national polling percentages, means something.

(11,607 posts)State polls don't get done as frequently, and especially when you put them all together, you are often looking at data that is as much as 2 or 3 weeks old, which is an eternity in today's political climate. I pretty much discount any polls more than 3 days old.

(8 posts)Nate now has a Clinton win at 77.3% down from about 89% a few weeks ago, so yeah, the polls are tightening. We can't afford to cherry-pick polls like the Rethugs do; we got to always face facts. This will probably be a nail-biting election and I'm not as sure about it as I was a few weeks ago. The debates will be crucial for HRC.

(543 posts)I see you think it will be a "nail-biting' election. What percentage would that be, approximately? Would you consider say, 7% a nail-biting election?
Welcome.
