Hillary Clinton's California trip cancelled

Source: KABC

NEW YORK (KABC) -- Hillary Clinton was calling off plans to visit California on Monday and Tuesday after a health episode at the 9/11 memorial in New York.

Video showed the 68-year-old stumbling as she appeared to lose her footing. Aides and Secret Service agents holding her up as they help her into a waiting van.

-snip-

Several hours later, her campaign revealed she was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday, was put on antibiotics and advised to rest and modify her schedule.

Sunday's episode added to the debate over Clinton's health, but a new ABC News-Washington Post poll showed the presidential candidate still had an edge in the race for the White House, leading Donald Trump 46 to 41 percent.

If she weren't being held up by several aides, she would have been flat on the street. And losing a shoe? That implies some urgency.

Glad she dropped the West Coast trip. It would have been suicidal to fly with pneumonia. She needs a week of bed rest. At least.

I ran for local office here when I was 50. And I thought in good health. Came down with pneumonia (bacterial) and I was out of it for a month. Breathing was tough, sleep was impossible, weakness, pain, and this sense of no energy at all was pervasive.

It took six weeks, but when I could finally say I was recovering, the most amazing feeling was having my store of energy back. Its absence was painfully obvious to me, and when it returned, the relief I felt was measurable.

to the bug she has.

Whether she has GI issues depends on the person and the antibiotic. A lot of people have no problems taking a course of antibiotics to get rid of an infection.

...antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infection from developing in the areas of the viral pneumonia. The "gunk" in the affected areas provides a likely medium for bacterial growth to take hold. The ever-popular "Z-pack" is a common course of treatment.

intake of fluids during the ceremony hoping to avoid a bathroom break, and I think that is what caused the issue.

She looked good after coming out of her daughters' apartment, and by all reports that was because she hydrated, and removed her out of the heat and humidity

I think this is an opportunity to get rest and recuperation, and I wouldn't be surprised if in a few days she comes out stronger then ever

A good friend was working through his walking pneumonia and was under a bit of stress. Because he ignored his MD's orders and kept working, his pneumonia got far worse. He ended up being bed ridden for a month. He even spent a couple of days in the hospital.

She has to take it easy for more than a day or two, especially after this event. But even 2-3 days in bed would help. A week would be better, or she risks her illness sticking with her. But the realities of a presidential campaign do tend to intrude.

At least it is late summer, early fall. Imagine if it were the middle of winter. The risk to her would be even greater.

I was put on strong antibiotics and told not to leave the house for at least six days. I was 36 at the time. I doubt that Hillary, at age 68, was given advice that differed wildly from what I got. If she takes it easy, she'll be fine, as I was.

A week should do it, if she can bring herself to take it easy for that long. Pneumonia can really come back and bite you if you don't take the time to get rid of it altogether. I hope she does, no matter how much it pains her to not be out campaigning.

21. In 1979 I had pneumonia...back then I had an x-ray, did you have an x-ray, too?
Mon Sep 12, 2016, 08:07 AM
Sep 2016

I'm wondering if x-rays are still a standard part of the assessment and if so when HRC had an x-ray confirming her dx and the extent of the infection?

Also, when I had pneumonia, the clinic collected a sputem sample (wet cough results spit into a sample cup) so that they could try to assess the agent that was involved. (Back then they didn't use blood tests to look for antibodies being produced to determine the agent, and I don't know if they do now)

So I'm wondering about this pneumonia dx and when and how it was made. And I'm wondering about the quality of medical attention she's getting.

There doesn't seem to have been any reporting of a visit to a clinic for an x-ray between her collapse getting into transport and the announcement of the dx.

So the dx doesn't put all the questions to rest but rather raises a couple... was the dx made earlier, including all the usual and appropriate imaging support? Did she and her intimate senior staff know about the pneumonia and then chose to go ahead with more than just a face-showing at the 911 commemoration?

or

Was the dx given yesterday and not supported by the usual imaging, which is sort of necessary to know just how extensive the infection is?

I'm totally surprised that Hillary's doctor didn't prescribe a pneumococcal vaccine for her.

My doc says that anyone over age 55 should be vaccinated. And since she is 68, she is way overdue for a shot.

I've had pneumonia twice and it is no fun.

It's amazing that some people can be so left-wing that they become right-wing. I'm sure he's a better person than that, but christ man, let it go!
