State of emergency declared in Charlotte and national guard deployed

The governor of North Carolina, Pat McCrory, has declared a state of emergency and deployed the national guard to Charlotte.
Fox is officially withdrawing its crews from uptown Charlotte, the area that has seen protests turn violent this evening, following other news organizations including the local NBC affiliate and Charlotte Magazine.

(31,402 posts)Police Chief said one protester had died; now they've corrected that to say he's in critical condition.
The Mayor says she will view the dash cam video (how come she hasn't already seen it?!?) tomorrow and apparently then would release it to the public:
a tweet from the City of Charlotte said, no, it wouldn't be made public.

(1,254 posts)This was not nearly as bad as many other protests. Nothing like the one we saw in Seattle several years ago. There were some idiots wearing masks and taunting the police. There were a lot of "rubber neckers" milling around with their phones and ipads taping videos. The police were out in force, launching tear gas and making arrests.
