Blue Bell again recalls ice cream over Listeria concerns

Source: Dallas Morning News

One year after Texas-born Blue Bell returned its ice cream to store shelves following a system-wide recall, the iconic brand is recalling "select products," again due to Listeria concerns.

Brenham-based Blue Bell is voluntarily recalling some products produced in its Sylacauga, Alabama, plant "because they were made with a chocolate chip cookie dough ingredient supplied by third party supplier Aspen Hills, Inc., due to the potential for it to contain Listeria monocytogenes," Blue Bell said late Wednesday.

The Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Blue Bell Cookie Two Step ice cream was not distributed in Texas but was sold in 10 mostly southern states including Louisiana, Mississippi and Georgia.

The announcement comes days after Blue Bell returned to parts of North Carolina and South Carolina, two states that are included in the recall.

The good news is that they identified the cause quickly and it is related to a third-party supplier rather than a problem within the creamery.

Is it a cookie? Or, is it ice cream?

Nope. It's neither. It's Blue Bell, so it must be listeria!

And somehow I think blaming the supplier isn't going to work this time.

... are always trying to pull crap on the USDA inspectors. Adding too much water or fat. My dad(retired after 32 years) used to be Inspector in Charge at a Smithfield pork processing plant.

They recalled it, returned it(?), and are recalling it again.

That's persistence.

I think (I hope) I knew what they intended to convey, but I'm gonna stay with the store brand for the time being.

Republicans and libertarians want to get rid of regulations and let "the market' regulate itself.

Heinz Ketchup made an honorable name for themselves going against the libertarian idea of letting the free market do its own thing (regulate itself).
