Phoenix chief: 3 officers resign after man forced to eat pot

Walter Berry, Associated Press

Updated 8:41 pm, Thursday, September 22, 2016

PHOENIX (AP) — Three Phoenix police officers have resigned after a man alleged they forced him to eat marijuana found in his vehicle to avoid going to jail, Chief Joseph Yahner said Thursday.

. . .

Yahner said all of the officers' video cameras were turned off and did not record the incident in which a 19-year-old Phoenix man was stopped for a traffic violation around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 13. The man, whose name was not released by police, was issued a citation and had his car towed.

He later told a patrol supervisor that the officers demanded he eat the marijuana, estimated to be about a gram, or go to jail.

Except he is a bit nicer and just makes them put it on the ground and stomp on it. Better than jail time for a stupid law at least

2. If the DA doesn't charge them, these guys are just going to get hired in a different department.

ETA Never mind, I just reread the article and realized that these guys were are still probationary officers.

On another note, I wonder who this kid is related to because the department moved really fast in disciplining everybody that even had a tangential connection to this incident.

Or maybe just bullying can.

Frankly, it's hard to imagine much of anything less consequential. It will have about the same effect as eating barn hay. There is not enough heat to break the thc free, so most of it will just pass right on through. A little extra fiber, but that hardly ever hurts anyone.

A gram of pot? That's 3/100 of an ounce.

13. Guess we can confidently assume that the guy forced to eat the pot wasn't black.

A gram of pot is almost minuscule but I'm betting there would have been a different result if it was a POC these cops were dealing with.

Usually if a cop caught you with just a joint or two. the choice was to eat it or go to jail..... I ate a few joints.
