Chris Christie Protected Culprit in Bridge Lane Closings, Agency Head Testifies
Source: NY Times
While Mr. Christie is not charged, prosecutors have said he knew about the lane closings as they were happening, contrary to what the governor has said in the three years since. The closed lanes caused gridlock in the town, stymying ambulances, commuters and schoolchildren for four days.

Testimony on Thursday morning by Patrick J. Foye, the executive director of the Port Authority, which operates the bridge, described a frenzied effort to cover up the punitive purpose of the closings in the three months afterward. Mr. Christie won a broad re-election that fall, becoming a front-runner for the Republican nomination for the presidency and prompting more interest, and more questions from reporters, about the events.
Mr. Foye testified that he conducted an internal review of the closings, talking to just three people at the Port Authority. But he could not ask Mr. Wildstein, a top official at the agency and a close ally of Mr. Christies, even a single question, he testified.
Because you couldnt? asked Michael Critchley, a lawyer for one of the defendants, Bridget Anne Kelly, who was a deputy chief of staff to Mr. Christie. He was protected by Chris Christie, correct?
Yes, Mr. Foye said.

And Christie had the balls to stand in front of the RNC and cheer people on as they
chanted "lock her up" about Sec. Clinton?

(70,508 posts)If so and if you have a democratic state senator or state rep. then pass that info onto
them because it might be good ammo in an impeachment case. You might want to
send Christie a bill for $2,000 too.

Republican Gov. Chris Christie's office used the bistate agency that runs the New York area's bridges, tunnels, ports and airports as a clearinghouse for political favors aimed at gaining endorsements from local Democratic politicians, a witness testified Friday in the fraud trial of two former Christie allies.
Among those directly involved in the effort or aware of it were Bridget Kelly and Bill Baroni, who are accused of creating traffic gridlock at the George Washington Bridge in 2013 to punish one of those mayors for not endorsing Christie, according to David Wildstein's testimony.
Wildstein said Christie and his former campaign manager, Bill Stepien, were among those who discussed the strategy at a meeting about Christie's 2013 re-election.
Stepien and another former Christie aide who testified Friday now work for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's campaign.
Wildstein has pleaded guilty in the scheme to tie up traffic at the bridge, which spans the Hudson River and connects Fort Lee with New York City.
